For quite a while, DW was able to allow custom serial numbers as a special order feature. I assume the number on your gun is the original owner's first name...or maybe it's his nickname.
There's a few of us who have special ordered numbers, I have one that I acquired a few years ago...

Sorry for my slow reply. That gun was originally to be part of a big game series of custom guns from the American Historical Foundation. For whatever reason, they never got to the "bear" series, so they sold the ones they had on hand on Gun Broker auctions. If I had spotted the auctions sooner, I might have been able to get both 001 and 002, but when I came along, only #002 was up for grabs.
