Great forum! I've been lurking for a while now, and finally got a Dan Wesson of my own.
I just inherited a Palmer made 715 with a 4″ fixed barrel from my grandfather. He bought it new in 1996, put exactly 12 rounds through it, then threw it in his bedside drawer for the next 12 years! Now I've inherited it, and plan on putting a lot more rounds downrange with it. It must have been made right at the end of the production run for the Palmer facility, from what I can tell from the history available. The serial number is 357 S00824X.
Lets see if I can get some pics to load here….

Welcome Mars.
Nice inheritance. I, personally, have never seen one of those before. Kinda cool! Great shape. If you return here often you will soon find you have a severe case of DWAS (Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome), like most of the rest of us. And we wish you the best of luck with that.
Be sure to check out the Articles in the archive section and you will find a wealth of info about DW.
Enjoy!

I hadn't seen one exactly like this before either. The original owners manual is interesting as well...they just stapled in the red insert that you can see in one of the photos, and crossed out all of the removable barrel information from the regular manual.
You can see that some of the machining isn't quite as precise as some of the Monson guns, but the lockup is very tight and the bore looks great.
I would have prefered to have the removable barrel as an option, but this is going to be an IDPA gun, so the 4" is perfect.
Has anyone seen a Dan Wesson with a cylinder like that before? It has a lip around it similar to a revolver recessed for moon clips...interesting change from the early guns.

That is so cool! Thanks for those great looking pics. Man, these fixed barrel guns are really coming out of the woodwork in these last couple weeks.
I can't say I've seen a recessed cylinder like that before on a DW, so that's one point of interest. Another is that the barrel seems machined separately from the shroud, so I assume the shroud is threaded on & then pinned?
I see now that it looks like I have yet another bunch of DW's to keep an eye out for, in my travels...the fixed barrel flavor.
Welcome aboard!

Mars-
Really nice looking pistol, and very special to you because it came from your Grandfather. You also passed the New Member test (pictures) with flying colors.
Welcome to DWF

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well, now that I went & said that I hadn't seen a recessed cylinder like that…now I stumble on this one on GB…

The serial number is near yours too, I wonder if that is of any significance?
