Hi Y'All;
I'm a Canadian who escaped Canadian winters 20 years ago to live in France and now finds French winter too wet and grey. I discovered Cape Town, South Africa a few years ago, where it's summer in December, and have been spending several months here ever since.
I took up shooting in France five years ago and have acquired a small collection of cap and ball replicas, Smith &Wesson revolvers, etc., but no Dan Wessons. I can find no reference to them being imported in France.
As a tourist in South Africa, I am not allowed to own a fire arm outright but have been able to purchase one through a dealer who will keep it when I'm not using it at his range.
I was somewhat familiar with the Dan Wesson concept of changeable barrels and so took the opportunity to purchase a model 15-2, which appeared to be in good condition. It did not come with additional barrels, nor standard tools.
I have put 150 rounds of 39 Spec. SJSP through it and have been impressed with the light trigger and general accuracy.
The rear sight, however, does not seem to be very stable and I cannot determine whether it adjusts the same way as a Smith, i.e. clockwise to move right.
I've read the threads about wobbly sights, which were informative but did not answer the question. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Thank you.
PS: it's a Monson with a serial number 81***, if that makes any difference.
Nice looking gun. It is an early 15-2 from around 1976. Rear sights are tricky to fix. Best to replace it. EBay often has used sights. Milletts are nicer. Williams firefights for Ruger GP 100 fit. If you have a problem with shipping from the US maybe someone on the forum can help you. You really need a barrel tool to set the gap and tune for accuracy. EWK sells an aftermarket tool, eBay has used tools. You may be able to make or have one made. I have seen one made out of a socket from a socket wrench. If you had a torsion wrench it may make it easy to get the optimal tightness. Remember, snug is good. Do not over tighten sideplate screws, barrel nut or grip screw. The rear sight comes out by removing the roll pin. Beware full not to let the little springs under it fly away. Lastly, keep the gun tilted to the left with your fingers through the frame when extracting cases. If the cylinder closes when ejecting it will scratch the sideplate.
Oh, also consider Florida. Mild winters, no gun registering, friendly folks and gunshops everywhere. Let us know how you are faring and if we can help.

Welcome from Pennsylvania. You may have trouble getting parts, tools etc due to the fact that you aren't a US resident and most of the items I mentioned are hard to send out of the country. Good luck and have fun with your captive Dan.

If a man designed it, and a man built it, then a man can fix it.
