Welcome to the forum from PA.

Dan's are very robust guns and can take quite a bit of use/abuse and still function.  They are also easy to work on for the average Joe.  Average Joe Tuneup will tell you how to do a very thorough cleaning and tune up of a Dan.

Look HERE for info on checking out a used revolver.

Yes you can get barrels and shrouds, ebay, gunbroker, EWKarms, even Dan Wesson factory sells some barrels.  Only vintage shrouds will have period correct roll marks, but that may not be an issue if you don't care about such esoteric nuances.

Get on Gunbroker and look at completed auctions to get a feel for what guns like you have interest in are selling for.  Time of year, area of the country and configuration of firearm all play into what a gun will bring.

Good luck on you search and show us some cool-pics when you get one.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

This is the essence of of what any new DW owner needs, from a guy that has a LOT (or as his wife might observe, TOO MUCH) experience with DW's.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
