Hi, I just found this site and signed up. I have two DW handguns, a stainless Specialist and a 744 pistol pac with an IHMSA serial number. I am fond of both and bought both second hand. I'm a boiler technician by trade and I have eight 1911s in my collection. Looking forward to reading the posts here. I'm looking for the serial number/age info for my Monson-stamped .44.

The first 44 mags were sold in 1980 but Dan Wesson showed them off in 78 or 79 at Silhouette matches I think. The first 10,000 had shorter hammer spurs. The first stainless guns were 715s in 1981. I suspect 744s came soon after. The roll mark may say Monson but all large frame and supermags were made at the Palmer factory.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Does mine pictured have the long hammer spur? My serial number is "IHMSA-S/57XX", I understand that it is a custom number, not indicating anything. When did they make these for IHMSA members?

The IHMSA marked guns were made available to members. The numbers were the membership number of the IHMSA member.
