Hi. I am a retired professor and have been away from gun collecting and shooting for about 35 years. Now that I have moved from the East Coast to red rock country and the wide open spaces I am seriously working on my bucket list. I wanted to wait till I owned a real Dan Wesson firearm before I joined the forum, since I only have the Co2 replica that I love to shoot on my back yard range. However, I live in hope that I will one day own a real Dan Wesson. I am tracking all the places I can to find a 15-2V Pack with standard or heavy barrel set. I see the Dan Wesson as a work of art and appreciate elegant and functional design.
I am still having some difficulty differentiating between a model 15 and 15-2 and read very mixed things about the desirability of these pistols after the Monson years. I have appreciated reading the posts on how even an average person can tune this pistol. I also find the photos of the pistols on the various headers very tantalizing and wish I could see a list of them each identified.
A Dan Wesson Calendar with various technical data would be something I would like to see. If there are any essential reference works people here could recommend I would like to know what they are.
After being a therapist for several decades I have seen about all the compulsive obsessions and strange attractions that exist on the planet. However, I have decided that all those who love elegant weapons and collect and preserve them for others to enjoy and respect are the most grounded and generally all around solid citizens on the planet. If the Wesson Collecting Compulsion is an obsession then in my opinion it a Magnificent one.
I remember as a young boy when the older and wiser men of our small town gathered us together in an indoor shooting range used by the local ROTC and taught us the NRA Hunter/Gun Safety Course. That was almost 60 years ago but I remember it still and appreciate those men for taking the time with us so we got a proper start in gun safety and appreciation. Because we had been taught correct principles early in our shooting careers we held it as a life long sacred trust to treat all weapons with deep respect. It was absolutely unthinkable for any of us to allow the muzzle of any weapon to ever (even accidentally) be pointed towards another person.
Well, I am rambling as old folks sometimes do, but I am pleased to be a member of a forum where people who love and respect their guns hang out.

Welcome to the forum from PA. Even though you dont own a Dan yet you are in the right place and I'm sure the right one(s) will come your way.
The main difference between the model 15-2 and the older models, is that the 15-2 has a straight bottomed barrel shroud, compared to the older models that have an extended 'porkchop' type shroud. You can check out the archives in the header for a better description and some pics.
In my limited experience, I own several Monson revolvers, all of which to me were very well made and all shoot very well. I also own 3 that were made at the later Palmer plant, they are all well made also, I have shot them and I don't see any quality difference between the plants at least in my Dans. My blued Palmer .44 would be hard to surpass in finish quality.

Welcome aboard sir,
Even though you are currently "DANLESS" at the moment hopefully one will come your way. Being a Therapist perhaps you can help me deal with the loss of a 15-2VH. I sold it to finance the purchase of a Pistol Pac and even though I upgraded I still miss it. Someone else is enjoying it now. Mine came by the way of a gun show, maybe someone here will have something for you. Once again welcome aboard!!!

Welcome to the DWF! Please feel free to ask any questions and be prepared to be bitten by DWAS (Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome). It is not an obsessive-compulsive disorder but rather an enlightenment to the fact that everyone should own fine firearms, and own as many as their budget will allow (OK, maybe a bit more).

Welcome to the forum, from one new member to another. I came here looking for info on Dan Wessons because I'd just seen my first Dan, ever, in my local gun shop. All I knew, before coming here, was that the Dan I saw was a pretty gun. I've learned so much about these guns in the short time I've been here. These folks on here are very knowledgeable and are happy to share information and answer questions. BTW, I went back to my gun shop yesterday, loaded with information about what to check for and what to watch out for, and now I'm the proud owner of a 15-2 DW. I feel the same way you do about guns, some of them are just pure works of art, and very pretty. I love pretty guns.
So, welcome and enjoy the forum.

Welcome aboard Doctor. You have navigated to the epicenter of everything "Dan". Well, at least the largest concentration of Dan lovers and knowledge that I'm aware of.
I own the stainless version, model 715, of the venerable 15-2. If you can find a good 15-2 or 715 you simply can't go wrong. They are amazingly durable and rated (in good condition) for some of the heaviest loads out there. The interchangeable barrels and grips lets you turn a single frame into several "different" revolvers. The other nice thing about a 15-2 is you ability to shoot very tame .38 special loads on up to more stout .357 magnum.
Ask away and folks a whole lot more knowledgeable than I will be happy to share their knowledge. Just be advised, once you get one, you will be infected with .
