DW-44S-left.jpgImage Enlarger

Hi!

Just picked up a 6" 44S yesterday. Took a chance on GunBroker and so far it looks like a decent deal. Monson Mass production with 4 digit serial number. The gun is built like a tank!  Need to clean it up and assemble some rounds for the weekend.

I own own a couple of old Colt revolvers and 1970-1990 Smith & Wessons, but this is a new adventure for me.

Lots of good info here.  It is a 744-V6 if I'm reading the model designations right.  Serial number is 44S0017xx. Don't worry, I'll post pics in the revolver section as soon as I get it cleaned up.

Welcome to the forum from PA! You picked a nice caliber to cut your Dan Wesson teeth with. The 445 really hits hard fun shooting you'll like it!

Welcome to the forum. Boy, are you in for some fun now. I think the proper term is hand held artillery,ie; cannon. Does the S mean stainless, standard or slotted? I've had extraordinary good experiences with gunbroker so far. Gotta cock your eye at the pictures when you look at them. There is a really funny topic on reading seller's descriptions. Ebay often has shrouds, you will be wanting other lengths. Did you get a barrel tool? EWK (click on ad below) has tool, shrouds, barrels and more.

It is stainless steel with a vented rib. Shroud is not slotted (now that I've seen pics) but there are two ports on the top side of the shroud just behind the front sight.

I can can already tell that a 4" barrel with heavy underlug shroud is in my future...

Everyone is assuming that because you said 44S that you meant 445.  However, with an SN beginning with 44S, your gun is definitely a 744 (.44 Magnum).  The barrel assembly will specify whether is is a V6 or a VH6.  The difference is the VH6 will have a full length underlug.

Welcome.  Enjoy your new toy and don't forget those pics.

Oops I misread that 44 S as 445 stupid small phone screen
:) A 44 is still a potent round and fun!

You will have fun with this one!  Be sure you have the gap gauge and barrel tool so as to properly set it up!  Tons of extras out here!  The 4" maybe the hard one to find although EWK (side bar or below) has custom Barrels and shrouds at a very reasonable cost!   Heck they even made a 2.5 and 3" for these!  A large frame Dan so you know!
