I just stumbled across a DW .357 pistol pack and a friends shop and picked it up on an impulse. Just on trying to find out more about them.

Welcome from Wisconsin!  It appears you have a Dan Wesson 15-2V vent rib 357, they also made a 15-2VH which has a full lower rib as well.  Most were made in the late 70's.  It also has the factory case, they also came with a belt buckle and patch.  Other than that it appears complete did it come with the instruction manual?  Looks nice, congrats!

OK, first off, Welcome to DWF, sorry it took me so long to greet you surprisedwink

You have a 15-2 V Pistol Pack (the "V" refers to the Vent Rib configuration)

THIS tells you more than you need to know about everything Dan Wesson made/makes

If you would share the S/N, I can help you with the year it was produced.

Otherwise, just poke around, and maybe read HERE to learn more about how a 15-2 works and some future opportunities to "tune things up"

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks guys, I was able to determine the year as 1979. Unfortunately, it did not come with the patch, belt buckle or owners manual. I see some that come with a black rubber grip, should this have had one as well?

No the grips you have appear to be what it came with.  Some had zebrawood grips instead of the walnut grip yours has.  You can buy the rubber grips on ebay for 21.00, the walnut grip you have sells on ebay for about 60-70.00, zebrawood grips are also on ebay and go for about 100-140.00 depending on how nice the grain is.

Welcome.  That's a nice looking pack there and it looks to be in superb condition.  You can always pick up the missing pieces along the way - just be watchful of the prices asked for some of the accessories.  If you don't have the set of red sights you can pick them up on ebay or the link off to the right side here--->.

Congrats on a nice find!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a nice 15-2 pac!  Lift out the foam from the top and bottom of the case, many times you'll find the manual/paperwork, patch and keys hiding under there.  I found an original purchase receipt from 1979 and a patch under the foam in one of my pacs.

Two things seem a little unusual with your Pack, the barrel tool looks a little unusual, and three of the four front sights have white inserts, definitely not factory original unless special ordered.

So, bottom line is you own a beautiful 15-2 with matching Barrel Assemblies in a clean original Pistol Pack case with a good looking Combat grip. The possibility is that all these pieces did not enter life together, but that does not change the fact that you have a beautiful looking Pack.

Now, get out there and shoot that Bad Boy

Steve is correct. The early style tool, wrong sights, lack of buckle and patch, make it unlikely it started life as a pack. Still, it is the most accurate production handgun ever made. Enjoy

So I looked at the picture and had all these really smart things to say. Then I read everyone's comments. Soooo, all I'm left with is.........welcome to the forum! big-grin

It does have all of the red sights rubber banded together in the case. It looks as if the sights were changed on the 8" ,6" & 4" to white. I have checked the pack behind the foam and no owners manual ( it was the first thing I did) what year was the old style tool used up to? I guess I will never know if it started as a pack, the guy that traded it in , inherited it from his father in law. The manual would be nice to have, however the patch and buckle, I would have no use for. I won't disgust you guys on what he traded it in for... LoL  my knowledge on Dan Wesson was zero before seeing this and buying it because it was different.
