I was just able to got shooting and take a picture. Couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate the holiday.
Happy Independence Day celebrations to all my friends !
Thought I'd post my 40-V8S, which interestingly has both barrels in stainless steel. Is that because of the slotted shrouds and they wanted contrast for effect? I have another, which is also the same.

357 Supermag is iconic. It is likely nothing like it will be made again. Best to use 180 grain bullets or larger to control top strap etching and forcing cone erosion. You can also shoot 38 Special and 357 Magnum. Barrel / cylinder gap of .002Rare find in a gun shop.
I had never even heard of the caliber before last week, traded a Smith 27-2 for it, once finding out I can safely shoot .357 and .38s I was extra interested. Getting into reloading this year as well so that will help alot.

Those look amazing! The contrast is really nice through those slots. I am looking for a spare shroud to mount a scope on for hunting.

I know. The SuperMag shrouds and/or barrel assemblies do not come up for sale on GB or FeePay very often. Help a brother out, my fellow DWF'ers .. will any large frame shroud fit the 40? Could he theoretically get any 8" large frame shroud and have it D&T'd for his application?

Cute Ron. Actually, you can use a large frame shroud on a Supermag. You would either have to mill out the ejector rod recess to accommodate the longer supermag ejector rod or use a large frame ejector rod on the Supermag. That would be the cheapest route.
I just stole a 357 Supermag BA on ebay for 515$ . Lol. Really, I do think I got a deal. They don't come up for sale often.

Stinger, I'm certain that they indeed intentionally used stainless barrels for the contrast through the slots in the shroud. It's a little hard to see in this photo, but the extra BA's in my "pac" are not slotted & the barrels are not stainless, because no need for extra bling without the slots, right?
I have a number of guns of all models that are blue guns with stainless barrels. Small frame, large and supermag. It seems to have started near the end of the Monson Era and continued in the Palmer. Many of the Blue guns had Monson frames and Palmer shrouds. I suspect that it started when DW had financial difficulties and perhaps had inventory issues. However, this does not negate the idea that stainless was used cosmetically in slotted shrouds.
I also think that the stainless steel of the barrels is very different from the softer steel of the stainless frames.
