Good afternoon,
I'm new to Dan Wesson firearms. I recently acquired one and have tried to look up the model. Unfortunately I can't tell if it's a model 15 or 715. The grips also look like Dan Wesson from the ones I've seen minus the DW logo. Are they original? The scope is mounted on a Burris scope mount. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hello Jeremy.
Welcome to the Dan Wesson Forum. Your pistol appears to be a 15-2 with a Vent Rib barrel shroud. A 7 prefix on DWs means it's stainless.
There is a section in the Forum titled, Things a Dan Wesson owner should know, that explains a lot about the different models. I have learned most of what I know about the guns from these posts. Also, the members of the Forum are quick to jump in with some good information.
I hope you enjoy the gun and the Forum.

Those are the original target grips that was an option on the first Dan Wessons made, the models 11 and 12. They are called Michigan grips. I think they were designed for a Michigan LE Agency. They look a little funky, like a handle, but they are very comfortable. Your gun is a very early 15-2. The 15-2 debuted in late 1974 or early 75 around serial number 50,000. Yours was made in the first year they were made. The first interchangable front sights started around 75,000. The 8"V Barrel Assembly may not be original to the gun. I doubt the grip was either. By 1975 DW was using DWA medallions and the wide base target grips.
