Welcome and let's see if we can give the info.  the 44 you have is if blue a Model 44 if SS it would be a 744.   Show us some pics of your find and we will provide more info.  Also look at members collections and model info. What goodies did you get with it?   The tools?   If not Check EWK on right hand side bar for quality Wrenches!    Don't be nervous about shooting these if nothing else run some 44spl through it see how she acts.  Is the Barrel ported? Shroud Ported?  if so you will want to remove and clean these before you go much further with it.   If you dont mind me asking what did you have to give for it?  8" is a good length for traget shooting you will find it handles well!

Gun Nutz welcome to the forum!  You probably have a Model 44 as I believe the .44 mags are all model 44 or 744 if stainless. We could really tell by seeing some cool-pics of your DAN as you know how much we love cool-pics. Careful about dwas as you'll be buying more very soon. I have a "few" Dan's and my 22 LR is a tack driver. You should get one soon lol2.

Hope to see you around here frequently.

Ed

edit: I see DWA Midwest beat me to the punch on the model stuff. Oh, post-pics.  rofl.

Welcome and good luck!  If you aren't used to full house .44 mag loads, you might want to start with some .44 mag cowboy loads.  I started with full-house .44 mag loads and developed a massive flinch response.  I trained myself out of it with the cowboy loads.  Anyways...welcome.

Never heard of "cowboy loads", had to google it.  Why not just use .44 specials?

Because that would not be the Cowboy way, sorry had too Doc rofl

Maybe case length 44 mag Cowboy Vs 44 special, OAL may or may

not be same depending on bullet. Or Str8 was just referring Cowboy

load as any light 44 load.

Welcome to the forum!!

As others have said you have the Model 44,  what we tend to forget to say is that you have the large frame Dan. Calibers 22 - .357 are smal frame (except the Lil Dan which is its own frame).  Besides pics .. send us a range report!

welcome

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

For me, it comes down to the almighty $$$.  Since I buy ammo off the shelf, it is cheaper for me to use the Ultramax 44 Mag cowboy loads that my local shop stocks (50 for $36.99).  Their .44 Spl loads run $10-$15 dollars more for 50.  Not as much demand, I guess.   screwy

thanks for the info guys. lol i gave 250 for it and the Arminius 22 mag which isnt worth much at all anyways. i ran both the serial numbers before i gave him any money to ensure that they were legit. a guy had borrowed money from him and they were his collateral so he sold them to me , he wanted 300 but i talked him down to 250 so i think i got myself a deal lol for the first time in my life i got the good end of something. my 44 isnt perfect , the finish is messed up where it looks as if it had been holstered and just generally used, but i still think she is a beauty and cant wait to send a few hot ones threw her .shooting

ill post pics as soon as  i can

ii didnt get any of the tools or other barrels wish i woulda but for the money im happy. the guy who borrowed the money wont return calls or nothing so ill never get the rest of the stuff for the gun. btw he signed a contract stating that the dude could sell his guns if he failed to pay him back, i havent shot a .44 mag ever so i can imagine that its probably goin to kick like a pissed off mule lol i am curious to see if the barrel vents help with the muzzle rise and what not

Not at all, that's the perfect size for forum posting.smile It's a little hard to tell from the angle, but it appears you have one of the early Monson guns with a short hammer spur. In my book, that makes your purchase price all the better!occasion
