I just got my Dan Wesson 357 Mag. 8" about 30 minutes ago. I have only done a little researce on these guns. I instantly fell in love with my new piece. I will wait to shoot it untill I can get a barrel tool and gauge to double check the gap. Glad to be here. I bet I can come up with a few questions later but for now i will just brouse and see what all the guys in the know have to say.

Welcome to DWF! Let's cover some basics, before they become questions:
1) If you don't already have a line on a barrel wrench, EWK is your source for the best one going, far better than the original factory item.
2) When you set your barrel gap, set anywhere from .002-.006",but always check all chambers and set your gap on the tightest one.
3) Don't over tighten the grip screw, this can result in inconsistent DA/SA function
Believe it or not, this covers about 80% of the issues with any DW, and virtually anything else about how a DW functions is right here:

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum, I think Steve gave you the most valuable information there is for a shooter new to Dan Wessons.Any other questions you can come up with are probably covered by a thread here somewhere, or just ask away, lots of very helpful guys here.
We love cool pics here, and give us a range report when you get time!

Dan Wessons can handle any factory ammo, for target shooting I usually pick up whatever is cheap in my local gunshop. I Like 158gr. American Eagle. If you are not used to magnum shooting or are taking along a newer shooter, pick up some .38 Special too, they are cheaper, less recoil and very mild in a Dan sized revolver and still a lot of fun.

Before I got into reloading, I found that American Eagle 158gr soft points ran really well in my 8" 15-2.
