I'm looking for some information I just purchased 2 Dan Wesson 15-2 pistols and I was wondering if anyone new a way of tracking what year they were made in. I'm a former silhouette shooter from Arkansas and have owned a Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 and loved it wish I had never sold it. Also I was wondering if anyone else shot silhouette in Wisonsin? I think that it's pretty much a dead sport anymore but you just never know. The only thing that I have found out so far is that they were made between 1971-1992 both have the Monson MA on the frame but I was wanting a little more detail. Thanks William

OK OK I recently have been more digging into the forum and Have found that there isn't a way to pin point the manufactor date because tha ATF seized the records when they went out of business or was bought out by CZ but I do know that I have the newier style shrouds and NOT THE PORKCHOP style. The 15-2 .357 with a 6" has a zerial number of 24682* and the .22 15-2 is 203* both were made in Monson MA so that puts them between 1971-1992. what an addiction I have found this have began to bug me to determine the year.

to the
Nice set of Dan Wessons you have there!
Your .22 would be a model 22V6. You have the model correct for your .357; or 15-2H6.
When Dan Wesson in Monson, Mass went out of buiness in 1992 all the manufacturing records were turned over to the ATF. CZ is, more or less, the forth owner of Dan Wesson.

William:
First, welcome to the forum. The upper gun in your pic is a model 15-2 H6 (heavy, 6 inch barrel). The lower gun is a model 22 V6 (vented, 6 inch barrel).
The 15-2 is unique because it has a non-vented heavy barrel, definitely a rare combination.
on determining the year of manufacture. Unless someone here has a very close serial number and the receipt for the original purchase, I'm afraid your quest is doomed.
However, I'm sure that DWAS is about to bite you and you will have other quests that can be fulfilled.

Welcome to DWF. Serial number info is tough, we have 2 15-2's s/n 37756x and a 38065x reportedly purchased in 1987.
My 15-2 s/n 7261x was a 1977 purchase, a VERY rough guess might put yours 1984-5, but who knows for sure?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well both of them have the heavy barrel but neither of them are vented (ported). So my next question is what would be a reasonable price for the both of them together as a package I know what I paid for them but it was sort of an unfair advantage that I sort of jumped on. I'm thinking of definitely turning them into a pistol pack just need locate the barrels and the grips and case. But the fund need to replenish a little first. And thanks for the .

Your 15-2 is a Heavy shroud, referring to the heavy underlug that runs the full length of the barrel, but it does not have the Vent rib on the top of your barrel (the narrow slots cut all the way through the top rib). Vent does not refer to porting.
Your 22 is a Vent shroud, with the slots in the top rib (each vent=2" barrel length), but does not have the full length underlug
Mike accurately notes that the Heavy shroud seems to be the least common configuration seen on a Small Frame DW
Pricing in my area tends to run low, I could buy a 15-2 8H right now for $299 in good condition. The 22 is less common by far and could get $400 around here.
Best place to gauge values is by surveying the Auction Sites.

I fallow ya know see that's something that I never new about DWA'S like that thank you. Nice to learn something new about the guns. I was just wondering for price wise because my insurance agent has me talking insuring all my guns and I'm haveing to put together a price for replacement value. That's why I was looking to find what year they were made for their retail value. To consider what I would have to put out for replacement value. I only gave $525 for the pair so I knew sort of what they were running here in Wisconisn and just could not resist them. Well happy every.

IHMSA80x80 said:Welcome to You have a couple really nice revolvers. My 15-2 is serial number 20834x, made in 1979. At least that will eliminate some of the earlier years. Thanks for those pics also...we live and die here on pics.
Thanks for the info so that would put mine much later. The 15-2(h6) 24682* and the .22V6 is only a four digit # 203*. I see that most everyone here has some nice pics of their DWA'S.
