Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Adam and I just got a DW 357 which I believe is a model 15 or 15-2. It's made in Monson. I work at a firearms importer and manufacturer and saw this gun and had to have it. It was listed as a CTG but after reading around on this forum, I found out that CTG is not a model designation. It is used but in very good condition. It is the blued version and has a couple worn spots but nothing you wouldn't expect from a used gun. It had a little bit of surface rust but that was cleaned off quite easily with some gun oil. It came with a 6 inch and 2.5 inch barrel. I took it to the range this weekend and put some rounds through it and man, is this thing fun to shoot! Makes my 9mm pistols feel like pea shooters.
I need to pick up a barrel removal tool so I can try out the 2.5 inch barrel as well. I only shot it with the 6 inch barrel this weekend. I found the link here to the EWK site so I'll probably pick that up. I think I'll probably keep the 6 inch on most of the time but I definitely want to try it with the snub. Thought I'd join up and do some reading and find out more about these guns. I am completely new to revolvers and still learning about guns in general. This seems like a good community and I wanted to check it out. Here is a quick picture of my new revolver.

from Wisconsin! You can find other barrels out on ebay also search Dan Wesson.
Yes, I have looked on ebay and seen the barrels. I think I would like to get a 4 inch barrel at some point. I don't think I'll like the 2.5 much but am curious to try it out. One of the gunsmiths here a work was looking into it and spoke to an engineer, who has one of the tools and they are going to clone one for me so I won't have to buy one. Next step is getting a set screw for the sight on my 2.5 inch barrel shroud. For some reason, it didn't have one. The gunsmith things I can find something easily at the hardware store.

Adam, Welcome to DWF! It's really great when a New Member topic comes up, and you can see that you have looked around, done some reading, and asked some smart questions.
If you want to PM me the Serial Number, I can give you a "Born On" year.
BTW, the only barrel assembly I own or shoot on any of my DW revolvers is 4VH. IMHO 4 inch is perfect for .357 Magnum, and over the years, lots of police officers and PD's have agreed.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The sight set screw is a 4-40 x 5/16 socket set screw. Ace has single screws in their hardware section and you can find them pretty much anywhere (amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. ).
Thank you very much! I went to Ace last night and spent about 45 minutes looking around in their hardware section and couldn't find what I needed. Now that I know exactly what I'm looking for, hopefully I can find one locally. I see that they have them on EWK for $2.95, which is a bit high for what they are but the shipping costs more than the part so I'd like to find it locally if I can.

Thank you, sir! I will send a PM with my serial number. I like the way the gun looks best with the 4 inch barrel. Like I said, I have only shot it with the 6 inch and it seems very accurate.

So great to see new enthusiasm. BTW, the 21/2" is very fun to shoot IMO and extremely accurate also. Don't leave out the 8". The longer sight radius makes it perhaps even more accurate. Ditto the 10" but I prefer the vent rib in 10"and 8" to the VH. One caution. Keep your index and middle finger of your left hand pushing the cylinder open when ejecting cartridges. And tilt the gun to the left. The cylinder has a tendency to close when ejecting cases and the ejector star will make nasty scratches on the sideplate. Also never over tighten the barrel nut, gripscrew and sideplate screws. Snug is good.

Thanks for the advice. I should have a barrel nut tool soon and I definitely want to try out the 2.5 inch barrel. I did read about not over tightening the grip screw because it can cause the trigger to not pull back far enough or something to that effect. My Hogue grip should be in the mail when I get home so I'll see if I like that. It was only $21.00.

I got my Hogue grip in the mail yesterday so I put it on last night. I like the way it looks but I don't like the feel. It's a a bit too small for my hand and it's also too narrow at the bottom so it makes the gun feel really nose heavy with the 6 inch barrel. I think I'll like it a little better with the 2.5 inch barrel on it. The grip the gun came with is actually a Pachmayr and it feels much better in the hand and the gun feels much more balanced since it's wider at the bottom and it gives the pinky more leverage.
