I have to say it am a DW owner just by pure accident.
I was at my favorite gun shop in High Point, NC when the owner showed me a gun he had traded for.
I was impressed when he opened the gun case to reveal a model 15-2 4-barrel 357 DW with two grips, wrench, and sholder parch.
I took one look and asked if he would consider my Kimber 45 with laser grips on a trade for this marvelous cannon.
He looked at me and replied...."Yep.....Even!"
Boy am I hooked.
I am only missing the feeler gauge.
I came here in hopes that I would find the thickness of the gauge and sure enough it is posted here which eased my mind.
Now, I have feeler gauges, but lo and behold, not a .006 in the lot. I am having to use A .005 and a .002 together.
So any of you old hands have a spare or knows where I can get one, I'm looking.
By the way, my shooting buddy has drooled on it each time I shoot it. He says it is the best gun I have.
The serial number indicates it is a late 1979 made DW.
Well, enough said, but let me say I am happy to be a forum member.

to the .
I have to say this before someone else does:
OK, now down to business. Sounds to me like you're about to come down with DWAS. Good luck with that.
As far as gapping goes. I set all of my Dan's (I have 14 of them) at .002 and have no issues. However, if your gun is a Monson or Palmer made gun you will find that the front surface of the cylinder is not flat. So, when setting your gap, set it for the tightest cylinder position. That way you won't have any issues with binding when everything heats up.
My in-laws live in Greensboro and I'm going down there in September. Maybe I'll have some time for gun shopping when I'm there. Maybe not; it's only for a weekend.
You are going to love your new treasure.
BTW, keep watching GunBroker and eBay for those shims. They show up from time to time. Of course, a lot of Dan's show up on GB.

Welcome to DWF, I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to grab that screen name! .006 is a starting point, you can gap tighter, just heed the advice on gapping to the tightest chamber.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Setting the gap... is as much art as science.
I have 3 Monson 15-2 ( .357) and they all do just fine by @ .006, or even a "loose" .006. Using just the .005 should be fine, after all its just a "tight" .006.
Now, if you really want to experience the DW though... you need to slap a 6" VH or even a 8" puppy on there, makes a DW purrr.
Welcome aboard!
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

aboard, sounds like you've landed yourself a nice one!
As has been said by others, a tighter gap will work fine with your gun. I usually gap my DW's somewhere between .002 & .004, depending on which one feels right for the particular gun.
We'd love to see some of your DW, if you have any you'd like to share.

Thanks for the welcome.
I ordered a scope mount for the 8", but I am hesitant to drill and tap it for the 6-48 screws. I was hoping it had side set screws so drilling and tapping would not have to be done.
I'll make some pictures as soon as the fabric gets washed and put back on the foam in the case.
I did get a nasty surprise when cleaning the DW first time.
I sprayed the cleaner and somehow I got it on the grip, touching the grip left a big thumb print in the finish.
I had to remove the finish and go from there.
Being married to an antique collector, I had an edge on making it back like it should have been, but it took 3-4 hours to do so. I'll be more careful in the future as I used clear lacquer to spray it with.
Note to Zoommb: If you are goiing to be in GsBoro., There are several gun shops to visit...two in Kernesville and my buddy Dale's shop between High Point and Thomasville where I got the DW, (Cell 336-688-0673) Tell him Gerald sent you.
I'm new, so if I am putting something up that I am not supposed to, forgive me.

TO THE ! And no, you're dong fine with that post. The only problem is NO .................. I know the fabric thing is holding you up. We don't mind a little oil spots on the fabric. .
Now you need to get a 44 or a 744.......they rule! SuperMags really rule, so as is very contagious.

DWLover, there are a few scope mounts that do not require drilling, such as a B-square and a Burris model I know of. You just have to look around a bit to find one. If not another good option is to buy a second shroud for the scope mount and then it only takes seconds to swap from open sights tooptics. I haven't tried it personally but I have heard before that poi after a shroud swap holds fairly true. good luck and anxiously awaiting pics.

Thanks Gerald. One of my brothers-in-law is a shooter too. Maybe we'll get some gun shopping in.

Blacktop,
I followed your instructions and everything went fine until I tried to upload.
(Before uploading, I resized the pic to 478x478 in JPG format.) Thinking I had the pic too large.
Here is the error message I get when I try to upload the pic 3 times:
Sorry, there was an error processing file uploads.
So where to now?
