Hello everybody! Glad I found this site, it is very informative.
Here are pictures of a Model 22 that I bought last summer.
I know nothing about it, but would like to fill in some gaps in the outfit.
It has one long barrel, and 3 short ones, but would like to find the "in betweens" for it.
Any help would be appreciated.
The obvious questions are, Year of gun, any special instructions for the gun, and any other history.
The serial is 4947. The same as the last 4 of my cell number, so I HAD to buy it, it was fate.

Welcome to the forum, Jason. Nice gun. There's a 6" barrel assembly on Gunbroker right now that matches your 8" that is on your gun now. It's Auction # 455043028
For what it's worth and at the risk of being wrong (soon to be corrected by smarter members if I am) I don't think the 8" barrel assembly (BA) on your gun matches the label. The label seems to describe an 8" VH which is Vent Heavy and that would look like one 4" BA that you have which appears to be a VH. On the VH, the underlug below the ejection rod extends all the way to the end of the shroud, rather than curving up toward the top of the shroud as it does in 3 of your BA's. The VH is therefor heavier than the standard shroud. This has functional value to reduce recoil in the larger calibers and magnum loads. Recoil is not an issue in a 22, but the extra weight can also help steady the gun when shooting without a rest. Some folks also think the VH is more attractive than the standard BA, strictly a personal preference.
Regardless, it's no detraction from the gun. A prior owner probably traded it for one reason or another. VH's are somewhat hard to find for the 22. It will give you something to look for, since you will be suffering from 
soon, if you aren't already.

All true Snake-eye. Fine looking .22 Dan though. Full range on the 4" BA's, too. With that low a serial # and considering the .22lr started in 1979, I would have to assume your holding a '79 production gun.
The label is marked for 8'VH and the pistol is sportin' the 8"V. Nothing wrong with the vent rib at all. I'm sure in time you can find the barrels you want and need to make a pac. Looks like you have the 4"VH, 4" V and a 4" standard BA's. It could also be possible to do some trading...just a thought. I see an envelope, did you get the barrel wrench and gap gauge as well? Did you get a set of wooden target grips or only the Pachmayr Grippers? Which BTW, are a nice asset. All and all, I'd say a fine specimen of DWA ingenuity. Now you just need to clean her up, set the cylinder gap and take her to the range..

Thank you gentlemen. Yes I got the wrench and gauge.
It only came with the black grips, but I would also like to find a set of wood for it. These are too "Skinny" for my hands, I hope the wood ones are a little wider?
Also, will a 22-mag cylinder work in this gun? Was that interchangeability built into these?

the mag cylinder fit, I kinda doubt cause you'd be talkin retime and the likes as that. The grips can be found on GB and ebay. In fact there are several small frame grips (square hole) on there right now. Prices are kinda all over with the exotic woods commanding the higher. The Walnut target grips are generally a pretty good size. you can also, make a contact with LB on the side panel to the right and he could make you just about anything you want... There is a short wait tho.

Several guys have gotten cylinders for both 22 mag and 22 LR although it requires timing of the cylinders by a qualified smith. So it is doable just not a kitchen table swap. Good luck. OH and to the DWF.

I got a 6" barrel that is awesome, but if anyone knows of a 2" for this gem, please let me know.

Dan Wesson never made a convertible like the Ruger Single-Six convertible. However, it seems to me that if you replace your cylinder, extractor star and hand with new ones timed to a magnum cylinder, and kept your old parts; it should be a simple matter of disassemble and reassemble with the different parts in order to switch back & forth. The cartridge designation on the barrel shroud will not match the magnum unless you can find a magnum shroud. Theoretically this should work once the magnum parts are properly set up.
I would recommend you obtain a non-fluted cylinder for the magnum as another forum member did. It looks great and would help distinguish between the two.
