I've wanted a Dan Wesson since the late 70's....and finally found a deal on a mod. 15

with an 8 and 4 in. barrel.  I'm a retired State Trooper from okla. and now work for the US

Marshall's flyling federal convicts, anyway  I was wondering about one probelm that is spoken about by some detracters of Dan Wesson,..... should I worry about cylinders becoming "out of time" or metal on metal wear becoming a probelm.

I saw a used pistol for sale, for parts because of the cylinder was out of time and the pics showed obvious wear around the cylinder.  The serial number is of my pistol is B005823.  Thanks for the time! Laugh

Welcome to the DWF Sign

I've only read about 1 or 2 instances of DW's being out of time.  If you have one that has issues it can be sent back to Dan Wesson for service even though they are no longer producing revolvers.

We have some IHMSA members here that have put thousands of rounds threw their guns and I don't recall them reporting timing issues.  Guys please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've got a high mileage 15-2. It's a bit loose & spits a bit, but still isn't what I'd call out of time. I think that most any revolver can be "beaten" out of time by misuse, but if yours doesn't seem abused, I don't imagine you'll have problems with it.

Welcome aboard, do you have anyCool Pics of your Model 15?Laugh

Welcome to the DWF Sign... I've had a few 15's that I shot to death and they were fine after thousands of rounds...

Just go out and enjoy shooting it.

Thanks again,

I reload and don't load very hot stuff.  So that shouldn't be a probelm. I also have a DW 10mm pointman, which is very nice .  I like early  ruger double actions too  Its too bad DW got such a bad wrap from some writers back in the early production years.  It was such a differant pistol it bothered some people.  Being diffferant scarces some gun folks!

Hello Dan, and welcome to DWF. All pistols can be broken, but DW's are pretty durable, and still very repairable, both from the factory and most reputable gunsmiths. You should be good to go.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
