It's a pleasure to introduce myself here on the DW forum.
I just bought my first Dan Wesson from a friend. His father in law left it to him..
1. Appears to be a model 15 ///.8" barrel ..////serial number 1118xx
2. It was pretty dirty but is cleaning up nice, cylinder locks up tight, no signs of excessive wear
3. Bluing is heavily worn on the sharper barrel edges , cylinder front edges etc but overall still bright.
QUESTIONS:
!. How can I confirm the model # and age?
2. I read something about the probability of the liner (whatever the proper term is for the barrel section that screws into the frame and is inside teh shroud) loosenings due to any one of a number of factors not the least of which "shootings ". How can I check other than "bring it to a reputable gunsmith?\"?
3. should I touch up the bluing with Oxpho?
BTW.. I picked it up for $325....I'm thinking I got a good deal...any comments
Thanks , Nice to meet everyone

Welcome, Richard. Certainly a good deal. Pictures will help determine how good.
The 3 parts of the barrel assembly (BA) are: barrel nut, barrel and shroud. Barrel should not loosen in shroud unless nut is not properly tightened. Tighten firmly/snugly but not Godzilla tight. After 6 rounds, check to see if still tight. Never use loc-tite or anything else on barrel nut, or any other parts.
Continue to ask questions. We love to answer.

Thanks guys...
All helpful info. I am on my third round of cleaning. Used some powder solvent first time. oiled and wiped down a couple times and used an old tooth brush to get the loose stuff. Removed the grip and cleaned the metal under the grip real good. I liberally oiled the trigger area, hammer, cylinder etc and used compressed air to blow it out. wiped her all down. Feels real nice. Cocked and lowered the trigger about 50 - 60 times so far to lube up anything I can't see. Not a lot of anything blowing free now. I think I'm done with that for now. I'm going to start working on the grip as it is showing some wear so I will refinish it and touch up the bluing and she should look pretty close to perfect. Can't wait to get her to the range and put some rounds through her.
Picture forthcoming.

Very nice pistol and that price is what we call GTDW, Grand Theft Dan Wesson. I wouldn't touch the blue on it at all. keep her wiped down good and shoot her. As mentioned in previous posts, you need a barrel wrench and a flat feel gauge for that barrel and Ron already gave you the link for the Average Joe Tune-up. If you didnt get a wrench with the gun, take a gander over to the right side here and see EWK link. Eric will have the best wrench for the money and you can pick up a small set of flat feeler gauges at any auto parts or hardware store. Good luck with her, and feel free to ask away on the questions, tou'll find we all here will help keep a Dan going any day and any way we can.
BTW, to from the Bluegrass. You gonna like it here...
