Hi… I'm Magnum Wheel Man… & I'm hooked on revolvers…
got a nice stainless DW 357 Max, & a custom DW blued 44 mag snubbie, ( both wear custom comp / nuts ) that were made for me by a tallented but retired local tool & die guy, that's my buddy…
also have what many would consider an abomination… a stainless Taurus "Raging" frame ( 8 shot 22 Hornet ) with a 6" stainless Dan Wesson barrel shroud grafted to it, along with a custom fast twist ( 1 in 9" twist ) stainless barrel with Taurus threads on the gun side, & Dan Wesson threads on the muzzle side… that gun also wears a new style custom comp nut…
I guess I'm a collector of lots of different guns, & a handloader that loads around 50 different cartridges…
right now I'm working on a custom rear sight base, that will allow fitment of the Williams ghost rings ( both black & fiber optic flanked ), & I'm looking for a source for a couple different front sights…
any help out there ???
Thanks… MAG

Welcome!
Oh you should have a grand time here!!!
I love that comp nut.. but I dont really understand it ( how it works). How did yall come up with that? We here have our little idea of one as well ... take a look at the Christmas in july thread under revolvers for pics..
I am afraid you will have to be drawn and quarterd for the tarus thing though....
joking...

M.W.M., welcome to the nut house. We see some unusual guns here every so often, but you do have quite a collection of custom creations.
Your third pic in the first post, is that a .22 with a SuperMag shroud? And the cylinder release, ah, do you use the one on the crane or the one behind the cylinder?
You can get front sight blades from Dan Wesson in Norwich. The contact info is on the sidebar under FAQ's.
I too am interested in how the comp nut works. Is there a slot inside that vents to the holes on the front?
Very interesting collection you have there.............

ED… it's a Taurus Raging Hornet 8 shot 22 Hornet with a Dan Wesson barrel shroud & custom barrel grafted on it… the barrel is a 1 in 9" twist, & allows me to be able to stabilize bullets ( so far ) up to 68 grains in the lil Hornet case… the double cyliner latch system is something Taurus does on the "Raging" frame guns to help contain the higher pressures they were designed to handle... it's a bit of a pain ( using to hands to open the cylinder ), but you get used to it pretty quickly
the comp nuts on the 1st 2 guns are traditional expansion chamber type compensators, but the edges have been all angled forward away from the shooter to direct the muzzle blast away from the shooter… they work prticularly well ( the snubbie is about like shooting a 6" – 8" barrel gun, both as far as recoil, & muzzle blast as percieved by the shooter… the trouble with them, is they must be "fit" to the gun, & setting the barrel cylinder gap & torqe must be exactly duplicated each time, so that the port faces centered & up correctly each time… as a result, I rarely remove the barrel on those guns…
… the comp nut on the 3rd gun, was designed to not have an "up" position… it has a specifically shaped expansion chamber on the inside, that directs the faster gasses out the outer holes, which all are pitched slightly… it does reduce recoil, but not as significantly as the other style, but allows easy removal & reinstallation, without worrying about the comp nut's orientation… it was also designed to direct the muzzle blast away from the shooter, & even with rifle powders in the case, this comp nut does a good job of that… one interesting side effect, is it completely erases the fire ball, which we found out by accident trying to catch a picture of the muzzle flash, thinking it would throw an interesting fireball with the "torch tip" look of the muzzle… I think when the 44 mag snubbie works it's way back into cartridge loading rotation, I'm going to have my buddy make up one like this for the 44 mag… it might cut the blinding muzzle flash of some of the hotter loads ???

aboard M.W.M, it's good to have you here.
I too, have seen some of your creations over at TFL, you've got some pretty neat ideas. In addition to front sights being available directly from DW, one of our fellow members makes them too, in stainless. Here's a thread with pics & info...
BTW, that thread is 'pic intensive', so beware!

Thanks for the link… I posted over on that thread, to see if he has any extras for my "Raging Dan" … I want to test every thing well with the 1st gun, before continuing on, but next I've got to get the rear sight bases made for my S&W 10 mm Magnum , & my Ruger 454 Casull, but then will be doing a couple for the Dan Wesson revolvers…
if the Dan Wesson bases aren't brutal to make, I could possibly have a couple extras made ??? the "one off's" are pretty spendy… but doing that kind of work for only one gun isn't very practical… I have about $75.00 into my fiber optic ghost ring rear sight, ( between buying the sight from Williams, & having my guy make the base )… I wouldn't know anything one price for the Dan Wesson model sight base, until I get around to doing them…
if these work as well as I think they could, I might even want to try them on a couple of autos… but then… I'm a "wheel man" I might have to have changed out all my rvolver rear sights before I start on the autos ???
