Well, this afternoon between meetings I stopped by one of our LGS (the big one) to take a look around for 1911s (as you might have guessed based on my username). When I got to the CZ counter to check for any DWs, the counter guy pointed me to the only one he had- a revolver. Now I am the new owner of a blue 357 Magnum model 15-2 with a V4, VH6 and H12. My 16 year old son and I already had a date for the range tomorrow, so now we will have a new experience. He admits to being a little intimidated by the 357, but with the mass of this thing even with the 6" barrel, I imagine he will do just fine.

Thanks for the great forum. All of my questioned have been answered right here and I am very happy to have joined the DW family, even if it's not a 1911.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of revolvers. A 15-2 is great way to start. If the .357 puts him off, have him run some .38spcl. through it to get the feel. You and your son will have a blast.

Of course, we are going to be waiting for cool-pics

It's a Monson production s/n 370,4xx, so I guess that's about 1986 based on what I have seen here.

Wow, that is sweet. I have a 715 V6 and factory .357 loads are no problem at all. I also have a V2.5 and it becomes a whole new pistol with shorty on there!

I think with that VH6 your 16 year old son should do just fine. Let us know how your range day goes.

Did you get a barrel wrench?

I did get a plastic wrench (and 0.006" feeler gage), which already shows slight cracking, so I will order a new one from EWK. I also believe my son will be fine with the VH6 set-up, but, like so many things with firearms, it seems the legend looms large. The worst gun I have for recoil is an Airweight J-frame and he has fired that. Even 38 Special in a 15 ounce gun will work you pretty hard.

Welcome to DWF, 12H B/A is pretty uncommon.

I love .357 in 4", it's a perfect match for me in fit and balance, rivaled (possibly) only by a 1911laugh

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

Welcome to the forum from PA. Very nice 15-2, you will enjoy it at the range. Very good move getting the EWK wrench.

Range Report:In an abbreviated session with the DW (VH6 mounted), we ran about 50 rounds of 38 Special and 25 or so of 357 Magnum and I am impressed. The rear sight needed adjustment as we were consistently hitting right, but that was a straightforward fix. The boy did hesitate to shoot the 357, but did ultimately do so, and that sold him. We will shoot more next week, but after just a few rounds, I know this one's a keeper.
