Moved from another topic- Welcome to the DWF! rwsem.
Hello,
I am a new member and just recently purchased my first Dan Wesson revolver. To my understanding it's a 14-2, but the gun shop where it was purchased, swears it's a model 15. It has fixed sights and a recessed barrel nut. I can't wait to test it out at the range. Can anyone shed some light on to which model that this is? It was made in the Monson factory. Attached are some pics. Another thing that is baffling me is that their seems to be a slight bevel where the red arrow is pointing. The bevel looks like it is factory because the frame and cylinder look as though they are in excellent/near mint condition. Thanks so much.

Actually, that is a 14-2 (not a 14). Fixed rear sight+recessed barrel nut= 14-2. The bevel that you highlighted is definitely not factory. There is no rational reason I can see for that to have been done.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome to the forum from PA!
That is a nice looking 14-2 you picked up, nice score.
The bevel is aftermarket, I'd guess somebody managed to put a burr on the frame at that spot and filed it out producing that bevel. As Steve said, I can see no functional reason for it to be there.
Now get thee to a gunnery, range that is.

Welcome, you will love being a Dan owner. And owner, and owner...

In case you haven't noticed, there is a trend (hint) here.
And I once bought a used nickel (maybe chrome?) 14-2 that was sold/transferred to me by the LGS as a 715 (stainless)

It's really hard to say how the frame modification alters value. Certainly it has, but at the end of the day value is rather subjective. In other words a 14-2 has a base "going price" based on geography, condition, time of year, extras etc., but it also depends on the individual buyer.
Why not shoot it? Keep it? Buy a 15-2 and start a collection? We call it !

What do you think the value should be even with the filing on the frame? Other than that, the gun is in excellent condition. I might trade it toward a Model 15 with adjustable sights.
Welcome fellow Ozarker, Nice buy!!!14-2's are a little rarer find I'm like the rest, keep it, shoot it, and put it in your gun safe. Next thing you know it will have multiplied.15-2, 715, 744, Super Mags, endless possibilities.
Are you guys sure about the "pork chop"? Maybe my eyes but the barrel lug appears to end on the frame face just below the extractor.

Welcome from Ohio,
Enjoy, because they multiply and multiply, and multiply....
I love giving my opinions and predictions. Snake-eye has nicknamed me Cassandra. A Greek oracle than was always right but cursed by the gods to never be believed. The base value for a 14-2 without extras like box and tool etc is less than a 15-2. It is harder to find BA's also. I see them selling for about 100$ less than a 15-2 all things being equal. I suggest keeping it for home defence after you find out what ammo it shoots to point of aim best and what distance is best. I suspect that 158 gr 357 mag will work best at 15 to 25 yards. They are awesome combat Revolvers. Wolff reduced power springs work wonders on the DA trigger. I shoot mostly single action but my wife was trained to shoot DA to center mass and she loves the fixed sight Dans.

I have a few 14/714's and they shoot very nice, don't be in any hurry to get rid of it. Take it to the range and shoot it you may find you really like it. They do make nice night stand guns and also CC quite well with the proper clothing and holster. My dad has one he uses for just that purpose.
