I picked up two barrels and they came in the original 1979 boxes and oiled storage paper. The problem is that the barrels and the provenance provided don't seem to sync. The barrels are pristine, no wear at all and potentially not fired.
The oiled paper is pretty torn up and worn. Seems to me that the box and paper wrapping should be in better shape when compared to the barrels.
Anyway I am happy either way but I would like to know if the age of the barrels can be determined. They have the standard Monson .357 CTG label. I just don't want to present the barrels with false provenance.

Just from my own experience the boxes and paper wrapping will almost always show age before the part does. I don't own any boxes or wrappers from Dan Wesson, but I have owned several unfired revolvers from other manufacturers of that era. The wrappers and paper booklets age first, then the box. Also you'd have to take into account where it was stored and how many times it was moved throughout the years.

No, barrels cannot be dated, but shrouds can be associated with the factory they were manufactured. Monson used a two-line roll mark, Palmer used a single-line roll mark and Norwich is a one-line etching. I wouldn't trust the 1979 printed packaging paper, as they got lots of it and it lasted a very long time.

Thanks for the replies all and apologize for not using the correct forum for this thread.
I am knew with DW and got smitten with a circa 1980 14-2 "barney"that I bought at a show about a month ago.
I was looking for a 4" to supplement my 2.5" and these two barrels, the 6 and 8, were 24 hours from closing on Ebay and I jumped in the deep water. 🙂
@Stinger, I found the thread describing Monson and Palmer differences. Thanks all for the comments.
Those are BAs for a model 15-2. They will fit on a 14-2 but will not shoot to point of aim. If you go to EWK on the side I believe or the bottom of the page on a mobile phone you will find a link. Eric sells replaceable front sights that adjust for the fixed sight 14-2s lower rear sight. Or buy a 15-2 that those beauties can be used on as is. The 14-2s were mostly matte blue. By 1980 though they making some in polished bright blue to match those shrouds.
