I recently bought a Dan Wesson large frame in 44 magnum. It shot great the first time out, but I couldn't take the barrel off to clean it afterwards, so I soaked the top half of the gun in liquid wrench while I was at work. Afterwards the nut came off, as did the shroud, but a friend had to help me pull it apart. we discovered that the inside of the shroud was packed with gunk. It was then I noticed that the barrel was ported, but the shroud wasn't. I'm guessing that that's what caused the shroud to get so filthy and gum up my gun. I need to find either a non ported 8'' barrel, or a ported 8" blued ported shroud. Does anyone have one for sale?

All 6 of mine are ported, the hole is more like a slot than a circle.
BTW, welcome to the site. You will need to post some pics in the member's collection thread.
If you need barrels and shrouds look on GunBroker. If you need a really good wrench look on here for EKW Stuff, they are real nice. Also some parts are available from DW directly.
Happyness is a Hot DW and a pile of used brass!!! Rich

CF is exactly correct. All Monson .44 Magnum shrouds were ported except the 10 inch. All five of mine are ported.
To get the inside of that shroud clean, use a 12ga. bore brush and remember to clean after each trip to the range and never, never, ever shoot un-jacketed bullets through the ported barrel.

I think all 44 shrouds are ported...
The Monson shrouds are all ported (as far as I know so far)...except the 10" shrouds, that is. Palmer & Norwich shrouds weren't ported. Instead, there was an optional compensated shroud available.
Well I guess with that it could totally be possible OP could have a mix match. ummm...
Snubby with spacer, PP doesn't fit gun....they say it "travels in three's" don't they ?
