Hi guys, I just recently purchased a .44VH. It came with a 6" and 10" barrel. I had taken the gun apart for cleaning and noticed that the 10" barrel was not ported at the end but the shroud is vented. Would this mean that the barrel is not an original barrel. The 6" barrel is ported Thanks in advanced.

Ported and non ported barrels were offered and quite often you will see both types with the 44 mags
All of the shrouds came ported, DW also had a brush to clean the shrouds, this was a poor design the shrouds would get very dirty and if not cleaned often residue would build up causing problems.
Try to locate a 6 inch non ported barrel they come up on Gunbroker and eBay fairly often.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

In a word, yes. Not one of Dan Wessons best ideas, the only drawback would seem to be the deposit of powder and lead I the shroud and outside of the barrel. I think the effect also is marginal. If you use full jacket ed bullets the mess will be less. I think the 4" BA may be the one to use the ported barrel on. Even a little help would be nice.
