Hello everybody. My name is Paul. I usually go by "Deerclan" online, but I happily answer to either one. My first interest in firearms came about in 1966 when I was 14 years old. I was in the hospital with back surgery, and somehow two magazines got let in my room - an outdoor magazine (Field & Stream, if memory serves) and a copy of Guns magazine. They were my escape from the tedium of lying in bed in a hospital room. Around the same time, a lot of my peers found cars to be their escape, but I just couldn't see it. To me, a car is a way to get from one place to another. I talked my dad into getting me a bolt-action Marlin, a six-dollar Italian 6.5 at J.M.Fields, and eventually got myself a few other odds & ends. Around 1995 or so I happened to come upon a DW .357 with a short barrel, and there was just something about it. It had nice heft, and it ended up going fishing with me a number of times. (I guess it brought me good luck too, because I caught a lot of catfish on that river. Nothing like the taste of fresh-caught catfish.) I replaced the springs with Wolfe springs, and the DA trigger pull on it was smooth, bordering on incredible. When times were hard, I had to let it go - along with a lot of other things - and I've regretted it ever since. Fast forward a few years - I was at a gun show & noticed a DW .357 made in Palmer. I bought it, and on the way out, a vendor noticed it & struck up a conversation with me. He happened to have a new-looking short-barreled 357, made in Monson. I threw in some cash, and he traded with me. The Monson came in a box, along with a gorgeous 8" barrel, so I am once again a proud DW owner. It set me back roughly $800, but I seldom see DW's any more so I thought it was worth it. It has that same nice heft as the one that got away, and I am a happy camper. I'm looking for a 4" or 6" barrel now, and am surprised to see a few up for auction on eBay. I've read some here as a silent lurker (for a couple of years actually), and I enjoy the good-natured exchanges among like-minded souls. So I'm officially here now -- "Hello everybody."

I have started with Dans a year or so ago, now I have one stainless Pistol Pack, one blue Pistol Pack, and three Model 40 Super Mags. They are addictive that's for sure.
That sounds like a really nice collection, DA. I'm jealous.
The pics just now showed up on my screen. WOW! Eye-popping gorgeous!

Thanks, DA. I'm glad to be here. I am unfortunately ignorant about model numbers though. Can anyone help me out with that? I'v looked through several threads here, but don't seem to find the info I need.I need to know the model number before shopping for barrels. Thanks!

I'm feeling like a dummy. I went to replace the short barrel with the 8" one, only to discover that the square slots in the barrel nut are no longer square. The tool won't grip the slots. Is there a method of dislodging a stuck barrel nut? I couldn't get it to show up very well in the pic, but maybe it will show well enough to illustrate the problem I'm having.
