Yesterday I became the proud owner of a new in the box High Standard Sentinel Mark III. As Im sure most of you know there were produced in 1974 for High Standard by Dan Wesson. Not my first DW though, I owned a Model 15 back in the late 70's but traded it in on a Combat Commander. Guess Im sorta back in the fold and looking forward to learning alot about my new toy here.

Welcome to the forums Vortex.
I don't personally own a Sentinel but would like to own one eventually. That's a very nice example you picked up. Are you planning on shooting it since it's NIB?
Many members here, including myself, have a similar story(s) about a long ago DW trade or sale and the regrets from such action. In the middle of last year, I recovered a long lost 715 that I was separated from for close to 20 years. My addiction to DW didn't make itself painfully apparent until just a few years back. I had always regretted selling the best shooting gun I ever owned in order to obtain a 1911 that just simply didn't have anywhere near the accuracy of the Dan. After realizing this, that's when DWAS set in.
Here I am, years later, and I own more dan Wesson firearms than any other manufacturer.
Again, Welcome, and enjoy your stay. I am sure you will find plenty of answers to any questions you may have on your Sentinel, or any Dan Wesson. It's a great group of guys with tons of knowledge here.

Thanks CDF, yeah, I do plan on shooting it, I know its only new once but Im not going to keep it in the case or the box (hoping to resell it later). My new Mark III is going to be my new "nightstand" gun and looking forward to going to the range this coming week and trying her out (w/ cheaper .38 special ammo!)

That's great Vortex- good for you. Most everyone here will tell you they are made for shooting, not collecting.
I have a NIB W12 that I just can't bring myself to shoot. The urge to shoot it is always there, but I have a 715 I can shoot when the urge arises to shoot 357. I didn't pay much for the W12 and it came with all the original paperwork and box so I wouldn't really be losing any money if I chose to shoot it. Since I have several other Dans to shoot, this one will probably never get shot... the jury is still out on that one.
When I picked it up I had to post pics, and the general concensus, in this particular case, was not to shoot it- majority rules. Maybe I will donate it to the yet to be established Dan Wesson museum.
Let us know how you like it after getting out to the range with it. We like range reports here.

Welcome to DWF, a NIB Sentinel is a great find. If there is any paperwork that pins down the year of manufacture, I'd like to add this to the Serial Number Registry (cdf-we could use your W12 too). Please use the link on the sidebar if you have info on this one that points to the year of manufacture
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve-
Info sent on W12 and Model 40. Model 40 info I sent differs greatly from CF's info.
Sorry to clutter your thread Vortex- my apologies.

Steve, if you're looking for HS manufacture dates, don't forget John Stimson's excellent info..

Vortex, congrats on your score & welcome aboard! If you don't mind, would you post a pic or two of the box? I haven't seen a Sentinel MKII or III box yet, so I'm curious. Also, yours is only the second MKIII I've seen with a snubby barrel, all others I've seen have been 4" & 6" barrels. Sadly, I had to pass on a snubby MKII a couple months ago, due to lack of money.
Here's my pair…a MKII & MKIII.

Here is the pic of the box charger fan (I have blanked over the serial number). I was wondering in the photo of your Sentinels above do the smaller grips have the DW or High Standard logo? I would love to get the smaller grip with the High Standard logo, I can get the DW ones from the factory but obviously no HS ones there.
