On a recent visit to a local gun store, I saw a used Model 14 for sale. It comes with 3 barrels and 5 sets of grips. The gun looks decent and seems mechanically sound. The asking price is $650. My only hesitation is that it's a 14, not a 15. Any thoughts?

It really depends what your purpose is going to be.  The 14 has fixed sights and was generally a Service carry piece. The 15 is a Target model with adjustable rear sights.  Due to the different sight heights between the two models, shrouds are not interchangeable although there are adapters to enable this.

Is the revolver for sale a "porkchop" style or a Model 14-2 ?

Pics would help us with valuation ... but with the extra barrels and grips, sounds like a great deal, so don't delay - snap it up !

The price sounds good, for the gun and all the extras. Pics would help, if you are able. Welcome to thedwf

Welcome. If it is a porkchop in nice shape with suitcase and blank grip it is a good deal. It depends on the condition and what type of grips. If it is a 14-2 it is an even better deal. A 15-2  barrel assembly with a scope would be sweet.

I don't have any pictures. I know it was made in Monson. It currently has DW grips and I think a 6 " barrel. The tag on the gun says it has 5,6 & 7" barrels. I haven't seen the other barrels or grips. I was told the  other grips were Houge.

As far as my purpose, I was mainly looking to add to my gun collection with something unique. I guess I was wondering if a 14 is as good as a 15. I know about the sight differences. Will the 14 be as accurate as a 15?

In your neck of the woods, I'd think a Dan would definitely add a unique piece to your collection. The Model 14 and 15 series are the same gun, with only the sights being different.  As far as accuracy goes, I've always believed that Target sights were more accurate because they are adjustable.

Barrel Assemblies for these models only came in these lengths; 2-1/2", 4", 6", 8", 10", 12" & 15".  Lots of people incorrectly measure the shroud length instead of the barrel tube, from forcing cone to muzzle crown.

Hopefully, some of the other grips will be factory and not all aftermarket.  I'd ask to see the other pieces.

First, dwf-welcomefrom Ohio. I like my 14-2 6", VERY accurate. With 3 barrels it's a steal if cond. is good
