 Hello everyone,

Billy from North Texas joining the forum.  I was cruising a forum here called the Texas Hunting Forum.  They have classifieds like other forums and I check it regularly for deals and things I need....not want.  There is a difference.  Haha.  Also chat ever so often on guns, hand loading, and such.  I would not call myself a "wheel gun man" although I do have a couple of nice Ruger's in the safe.  A bird's head 32 H & R and a Bisley Hunter in 44 mag.  Both excellent shooters.

So back in May I stumbled upon a gun, while checking the THF classifieds, that caught my eye.  The lines where very smooth and the overall design and presentation where really drawing me in.  Hence the topic name.  I must have looked at it 20 separate times trying to determine whether I should start the negotiation process.  I won't bore you with all of the details but I believe that I made a wonderful deal on this fine revolver.  I am now a proud owner of a DW 744-VH6.  All I got was the gun and an extra set of grips (not shown).  They have finger grooves but I am not certain of the correct name of them.  I tell my co-workers if they have Low T to pick it up and it will fix their problem.  This is definitely a man's gun.  No offense to any ladies out there.  See attached pic.  Serial is S0013436.  I call it "HOSS".  big-grin  FullSizeRender.jpgImage Enlarger

Welcome to DWF, thanks for introducing yourself, and a really nice looking 744. If the other grip you are referring to is black rubber, it is likely a Hogue Monogrip, a fairly common item. Not as good looking, but pretty comfortable to shoot with.

Pretty sure we have at least one other Member that spends some time on Texas Hunting Forum too.

Steve

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

W/finger grooves, should be a Monogrip, I have one also and a Pachmeyr Presentation grip, the presentation grip

"lessens the bite" the best IMO, but wood looks the best to me !!sm-010.JPGImage Enlarger

Sorry for any confusion.  I am up to speed on Hogue and Pachmeyr products.  This is more of a hand groove than individual finger grooves.  See below.  I suspect for extended shooting or sweating hand conditions?  Which is 10 months a year here.  Thanks for the feedback.  Now looking for more out there on the interwebs and local shows.

Really nice looking Dan. Those grips are interesting... although I think they may have been modified Targets.

Thanks!  That might explain the shiny urethane type finish.  Altered for personal fit and then refinished?  Not bad fit for me but others are much better looking IMHO.  Nice to have an extra pair anyway.  Grips that is.....hehe.

I look forward to hanging out with you guys.

Billy, just keep looking around on DWF, there is a lot here. That is a beautiful grip, clearly not Factory original, but much better looking.

Now go out and Shoot that Sum-bitch range-time

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hi Billy and welcome to the Forum. I would be the guy that Steve referred to, "Pretty sure we have at least one other Member that spends some time on Texas Hunting Forum too." I picked up a nice 7445 off the same forum.

You will really enjoy that 744 and I can pretty much guarantee it won't be you last Dan.

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

Thanks to everyone.

I also have a Milsurp thing going as well.  I may be behind on the best deals (from years ago) but still finding great examples of fine rifles from an era, as time moves on, gets less and less attention.  I say that as my 13 yr old isn't being taught much about America or the most important part of our history, the Constitution, Liberty, Freedom (those are entirely two different things by the way) et al.  That's our public school system at work.  Ugh.  I digress.

Bruce, I love THF.  I not only have picked up a couple of great guns on there but also tons of "once fired brass" and other stuff to feed my habit.  Yes I will probably get another DW.  Currently watching 5 on Gun Broker now.

I suppose it's time to venture out to the other topics and discussions on DWF..................

Regards,

Billy
