Welcome, you have picked up a fine start to many more DW's! 6" is a good all around, is it a HV, LV, I am sure ported? Did you get the any goodies with it? If not see the side bar for EWK and LB, First is a great palce for wrenches (best around) and the 2nd is the home grown grip maker (none better).
So with all this said you gotta take soem pics of the new kid and show it off!
If it is ported barrel and shroud, beware you need to break it down and clean it up! if non ported you will be in better shape until you get a wrench and gauge!

Welcome to the DWF. Since it's a 44 and the barrel is less than 10 inches, the shroud will have 2 ports on the top. These only come into play if the barrel inside is ported as well. Most Dan 44's were delivered with unported barrels. However, it is well worth a disassembly to check.
Here's the problem. If the barrel inside is ported, gasses and powder residue escape into the gap between the barrel and the shroud. This must be cleaned often otherwise the barrel can become frozen to the shroud and become almost impossible to remove. A 12ga bronze barrel brush will help clean the residue from the inside of the shroud.
One thing to remember is never shoot un-jacketed bullets through a ported barrel.
Good luck.
