Hi,
I just joined and have been researching all of the forum topics. It seems that the pricing for DW Revolvers is all over the place. Some seem to be very inexpensive but then on some online auction houses they seem to be very expensive. I also noticed that the majority of these have no bids. Where can you find accurate values? I think I might have to pick one up but I don't know what to research.
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi.

Welcome!!!
I noticed this is your first post so Hello!
The forum members here have an old adage:
Seller sets the price, buyer sets the value.
I hope I have that right. But yes, prices on DW's can run the gamut. Generally I find this has it's greatest variance between "collectable" and shooter guns. Sometimes the "collectable" is obvious, but often it is more of "hopeful thinking" on the part of the seller. But just llike most goods the DW market varies by region, time of year, and simple supply and demand.
Anything in particular strike your fancy?

I think Pinetor covered the price thing pretty well. However, there are a few other factors that come into play.
One is the model of the gun, some are rarer than others and therefore go for higher prices.
Another is who's in the market at the time of the sale. A gun may go for less just because a bunch of us have recently bought and our gun-funds are low.
Finally the presentation of the item for sale, including the wording of the title and the description as well as any photos included in the listing can make a substantial difference, especially if some of the bidders are novices regarding Dan's.
BTW, welcome to the DWF; we hope you enjoy our site.

Yea... just like this guy--he really has it down right

Seriously though--Good pics, good description, AND the right buyer sitting behind the computer make all the difference. If the right buyer isn't online when the auction closes...oh well...

Yeah, Mike. You're right. That guy really knows how to present a weapon for sale.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that the weapon is pristine as well.

And it is the elusive Palmer Monson
I have only ever bought one gun on auction, and that was a 744 that didn't sell two times previously, and was not listed under Dan Wesson, so it snuck under everyone's radar.
Everything else has been local gun shops, prices there are climbing, but still lower than anything I see on Gun Broker. Extremely clean 15-2's are still at $399 here, and those prices are somewhat negotiable.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome you have come to the right place! Now the 15-2 Wesson is one that a guy may not want to shoot! Though the price is right so if you are looking for like new that one may be it! Tell us what you are looking for! A pistol pac? Pork chop, fixed sights, adjustable, blue? stainless? all of these factors come in to play when looking. What comes with it factory box, wrench, paper work, extra grips, Ba's?... so just find one you like and bid away. I have snagged several off of GB and never thought I paid to much! If you walk away happy then you got a deal!

TS90. I also find pricing on used guns confusing. There are a lot of sellers who ignore the flaws in their guns as their only thought is how much can I sell it for. Some sellers are willing to take their chance on a low/no reserve auction and start the bidding low. Some sellers can't stand the thought that they just might sell their gun below x dollars so they put in a large reserve or start the bidding high. Some sellers know how to present their gun well so it gets lots of interest. Others don't so there are no bids or only 1 bid.
Patience and knowing what I want and can afford have worked well for me. I found my way to Dan's through a search for a double action 22. A year ago, the only new manufacturer I could find was S&W and their guns were very pricy. Somehow I found that Dan Wesson had made double action 22's which led me to Gunbroker. I watched multiple auctions and bid on several only to be outbid. Finally I saw an 8" VH Model 22 that looked to be in very good condition. By that time I had seen enough to know that it could cost $600 or more if I was to win it. Several somebodies wanted it also so it set me back a little over $600. It had no extras but it is in very, very good condition. Best trigger of any gun I have. It is worth, to me, every penny I paid for it. I'm glad I got it.
I'm learning to frequent gun stores, gun shows, pawn shops and auction sites. I've picked up a couple of other Dan's. One taught me the risk of buying a gun with obvious problems (It's fixed and I'm glad I got it. If I had been patient, I probably could have saved myself a hundred, maybe two hundred dollars but its mine now. ) The other taught me the value of buying a gun that wasn't puffed, wasn't presented particularly well and just needed a good cleaning. )
As Pine alluded, only you can determine what any particular gun is worth to you. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask for opinions on one you see for auction. I'm amazed at what I don't see and others do and at what I see and others don't. (Usually it's the former.)
If you want a blued 357 in excellent condition, Shoot's is definitely a . If you want a gun you can carry in a holster and is going to get nicks and scrapes when you go camping, Shoot's probably isn't for you. Enjoy your search and good luck.
Oh, and don't worry about , ain't no such thing, no sirree.

Yep that one looks great. I have a cousin who has a .44 Mag with 4,6 &8" barrels. It also has the 10" I think but no shroud. It is in a foam box with the sleeve, barrel tool Gage and plastic cylinder cover. He will sell it to me so cheap that it is almost free. The frame is purple but it is in overall good shape. The whole interchangeable barrel deal is pretty interesting. I have a bad feeling that these pistols may become an addiction but hey if they are inexpensive what's to lose. I wouldn't mind starting the search for a pistol pack too. Is there any place that is better than others to check? Thanks again.

If I were you, I'd grab that 44 before he finds out what its worth, " He will sell it to me so cheap that it is almost free." Don't wait, take it! I just got a 44 with 2 6" barrels and the box etc, and I'm here to tell you that it WASN'T almost free, a good deal but not almost free!
Good luck

Okay...now I am really confused. When we were discussing the guns value the LGS said the book value at 95% was $285.00 + a couple of dollars for the barrels. Is this way off? I don't want to take advantage if we make a deal.
DW blue book is WAY off market value.... Barrels run $150+ every day more like $200 on a decent one. 357 frames $250. Whole guns $350 and up in decent condition--higher for a clean one.
And 44 DW stuff is higher in price.

I wondered if I might get myself in a decision point making that comment.
I'm confident any gun one gets from you will be as described.
At the risk of really stepping into it, an exposed nut W12 with 6" barrel in beater to middle of the road appearance with good internals would really get my attention. Realistically it is something I haven't finished saving for yet, and I really should get myself a good CCP first.
And yes everybody needs at least one model 15.
And Santa, I'm sure he has several; a functionally perfect beater for places where it might really be needed and I'm betting his open carry piece is a 715 in high polish with LB Gripper grips in Borneo Rosewood. Very Christmasy don't you think?

I think $2xx is too cheap for the gun and one barrel .. much less a gun and 3 barrels. I sold a 715-2 with two barrels and some extras ( EWK tool) to my SISTER for $550. Her gun-smith friend told her she ripped me off. (hey I set the price)
Give him $400 to $500 and both of you have a GREAT Christmas.
