Here's a link to an article on the New York Times Website about the ad Bloomberg financed here in Virginia. We have off-year elections here this November for Governor and I guess Bloomberg wants to make his voice heard.
First let me start off by saying that there is no Gun Show Loop Hole. In Virginia citizens can buy and sell guns privately without a background check to another Virginia citizen. I'm sure it's like this in other states but when you go to a gun show folks bring some of their guns to sell or trade.
Second I live less than 30 minutes from the Virginia Tech campus and have a cousin that goes there and what happen was tragic and my prayers are with the families of the victims. However the shooter didn't buy the gun at a gun show or a private individual.
And last but not least I certainly don't think we need someone from NYC coming down to Virginia telling us what kind of laws we need. I would think there would be enough to worry about there without involving himself in other localities!
The article ends with this paragraph which we (Virginians) will need to keep fighting for to keep it a true statement!
“If national gun control groups are waiting for Virginia to lead the way in their cause, they are going to have a long wait,” said Larry J. Sabato, a professor of political science at the University of Virginia. “The state has moderated on many issues, but not guns, and there is a near-consensus in both parties against any kind of major, or even minor, gun control.”

It is a problem with the current system that Billionaires can have big influence when and where they want. Even if they are not from this country, let alone from the state!
Look at the power of the funding of the Obama campaign. It was unbelievable.
Good luck, we'll all be watching this.

Another politician who can't keep his eyes on his own plate. Sounds to me that Larry Sabato needs to run for Governor.
Dusty, I agree. Nobaba's presidency was bought and paid for...cut & dried. Actually, I have my own unsubstantiated theory about that whole thing. I bet I'll be 90 years old before I get to see if my theory is correct, too.

I thought there were laws preventing the media from campaigning for a candidate. If not, the conservatives will never get the White House again. As a matter of fact, if Obama is elected to a second term, I wouldn't be surprised if he had himself declared President for Life. Just my opinion -- no flames please.

Bloomberg needs to mind New York City's problems, and if he wants to be a player at the state level, how about, oh, New York.
In CT students at two state universities are staging empty holster protests, OC'ing empty holsters to protest their inability to protect themselves
The last election was not only about money, but the fundraising and the media frenzy about fundraising skewed peoples thinking that the ability to raise money equated to the ability to govern.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
