The rationale seems to be that the constant process of appeals costs too much money and takes too long, with the end result that the Death Penalty never ends up getting "executed" (pun intended). So instead of passing legislation that controls and limits the appeals process, we gave up.
Criminals convicted of the greatest crime of all by a jury of their peers, denying fellow human beings of their lives, continue to get three meals a day, sleep in a bed in a room sheltered from the elements, medical and dental care, ...
It's getting to be TOO MUCH!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

As my favorite comedian Ron White says about my adopted home state Texas:
"Other states are trying to abolish the death penalty... mine's putting in an express lane."
"In Texas, we have the death penalty and we use it. If you come to Texas and kill somebody, we will kill you back."
To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:
if you find one...what's your plan?

Pretty entertaining, and like most of Modern America, probably some % of a nutcase, BUT much of what you hear and see resonates as "hmmmm, that might make some sense".

Doing away with the death penalty is just lame, sounds like CT is now one more step closer to CA. Courts should allow one appeal, then if the perp is still deemed guilty, fry the guy! Even my state will often drag out the appeal process for 10-15 years, sometimes even longer. They should be limited to one year, IMO.
