Here in Ohio the big cities Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo

enacted a 10 rnd mag limit after the Clinton ban expired.

They quietly snuck this in so slick, just found this out a year

ago when I was pricing around for some Hi Caps and some

sellers were restricting sales to some OH. cities and some just

won't ship Hi Caps no matter what city your in. mad

There is no "preban" exemption. Legally owned prior to the ban must be turned in according to the wording

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Dave, you are looking at the situation from a logical / common sense viewpoint which is obviously something most politicians can't or won't do!  I agree 100% though.

There is a very extensive discussion of this on the New England Hometown Forum at ARfcom. Although passage seems unlikely, everyone is pretty on edge about this. There is a huge controversy in CT surrounding additional taxes and fees on everything under the sun, and the concern is that something like this could sneak through under the radar.

One guy made the very good point that the wording of this would put the 10 round limit on armed security/armored car/plainclothes security because they are not sworn officers.

This is also not a handgun limitation, includes long guns too.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

In fact, here's my email:

As a sportsman and legal gun owner, I am opposed to
the pending action to limit magazine capacity for firearms in
Connecticut.

1) An arbitrary magazine limitation seems
meaningless. If a ten round limitation is enacted, does that mean that an eight
round limitation would be more effective? Five round  limitation twice as
effective?

2) This action will place an extremely unreasonable
financial burden on thousands of previously law abiding Connecticut citizens. If
you determine that a particular brand of tire is unsafe, do you demand that all
Connecticut residents using that tire replace them, at the risk of becoming a
Class D Felon? Unsafe cars, and the unsafe use of cars, cause many more deaths
and injuries each year in our state than legally owned firearms (and the
magazines used in them).

3) In a time of municipal and State cutbacks in
funding, does it make sense to place a huge new enforcement burden on local and
State Police? If our police departments now struggle with illegal firearm use,
how do we make that better by creating a huge new class criminals out of
formerly law abiding citizens?

This Bill is really in the best interests of no
one, and is counterproductive to the important issue of the violence created by
the illegal use of firearms, which needs to be our focus.

Thank you for your attention to this
matter,

That letter is succinct & includes good common sense examples. Steve, I hope your letter will be able to help effectively sway the decision.

In our state, we're currently doing the illegal immigration tug-o-war.mad I don't envy Governor Herbert's job this week.wink

This Bill did not make it out of Committee, today was the deadline. Pretty much done for this year it seems. I can tell you that there was a very concerted effort mounted through CCDL (Connecticut Citizens Defense League) and most significantly a grass roots effort communicated through the New England Hometown Forum of AR15.com.The posts and discussion there went to 33 pages, and many members were there to testify at the hearing, many more contacted legislators. Responses posted from many legislators showed that this effort educated many of them about magazine capacity questions and Second Amendment rights.

A good job, done right.

That is good to hear.  It's just sad that some other jack wagon will try to bring this back to life.
