In Michigan Antique pistols are not exempt from the Law concerning concealed carry. In a car it should have been in a lock box in the trunk. His SUV the lockbox can be inside away from kids, ammo and driver.

They say it a differently than spelling it out like NJ does but your gonna get popped for a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) violation without a Concealed Permit License (CPL) in Michigan.

I can agree politically with the fight to keep our rights but if your gonna carry concealed or open, collect valubles and hunt you better know the Law.

The same up here in Canada regarding transporting antique firearms.  Not knowing the law is no excuse.  Ironically, with all of our crazy gun laws, antiques do not even require a licence to legally own one.

Someone needs to explain to me why this man was arrested for possessing a mechanical device which is not classified as a firearm by the Federal Government? Those can be sold in most parts of the country without a background check of any kind. Is New Jersey a country unto itself? Chris Christie was making noises about running for president? Not on my vote!

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

Laws are enacted at the Federal, State, County, City and Township level. There are so many laws that at any time you are probably breaking one of them.

I love playing with visitors and relatives from NJ, NY, Conn, etc. I let them know that in Florida you can buy as many guns as you want and you don't need a permit. If you have a concealed weapons permit you walk out with them.  It keeps the liberals from moving down here and bringing their unconstitutional ideas with them. It is bad enough that they vote up there and then come here and vote.

The shocking part is that they ran ballistics testing on such an ancient pistol? At that point they're just running the guy through the mills. The officers were out for blood the second they pulled him over. All of that could've been avoided with 2 things in my opinion. Following the basic laws of keeping firearms locked up (if no CCW) and not consenting to a search. They probably would've had the dogs make a "false hit" anyway...

Even out here in Michigan, if you want to transport a pellet or bb pistol, if the barrel's rifled, you have to follow firearm transporting procedure or they will screw you over to the full extent of the law.

IIRC, I read somewhere it is estimated there are about 70,000 laws

That number appears low even for the Federal statutes.   Of course it would depend on how you count a law.   It it each enacted piece of legislation?   Each code section?     I think  your number is more in line with the number of defined "crimes" across the nation.    There's roughly 4000 federal crimes defined.

Charges were dropped by the way: http://www.nj.com/cumberland/index.ssf/2015/02/unlawful_weapons_charges_dropped_against_nj_man_st.html

If that whole mess isn't a good reason to avoid the Democratic Peoples Republic of New Jersey or N J politicians I don't know what is.

Ah that is why I love where I live! Buy as many many as you need or want. In july the conceal carry will be with out permits or with.  The bad guys don't care, or do they wonder who is carrying and who is a target!

Come out this way stay awhile, enjoy the weather and freedom buy, sell or trade your firearm!

Yet another RINO in example.

This case is truly pathetic. I hope sanity will prevail, but I have my doubt.
