Did you guys see this one? As the father of a 4-year old I'm sure I would have acted the same.
Sheriff's deputies in Texas won't file charges against a father who they say beat an acquaintance to death after allegedly catching him sexually abusing the man's 4-year-old daughter.
During a social gathering on Saturday, the girl went inside the family's home in Shiner while other members of the family were tending to horses outside, CNN reported.
The father caught a 47-year-old man -- with whom he was casually acquainted --attempting to molest his daughter, Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon told theVictoria Advocate. The father then allegedly punched the man in the head until he died, Harmon reported.
The father and daughter weren't named to protect the identity of the 4-year-old girl. She was described as "ok, besides the obvious mental trauma" of the incident, Harmon said.
The alleged abuser was found dead at the scene. His name wasn't released pending the announcement of his death to his family.
The sheriff's office will defer to a grand jury to decide whether charges will be brought against the father.
"You have a right to defend your daughter," he told CNN. "[The girl's father] acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him."
The father was reportedly "very remorseful" about the death and did not know the alleged abuser would die of his injuries.

I can't say I would have done any less in the heat of the moment. I hope the father doesn't doesn't carry too much guilt over the pervert's death, because he did the right thing, IMO.
I also hope the court's decision ends up in his favor. Child molesters are the lowest form of pond scum on this planet.

+1 on not carrying grief. I know a person who was molested at a young age. Now many years later that person still carries emotional trauma from the event. Good for the Dad for defending his daughter. I hope both of them get excellent counseling.
Personally, knowing what I know, it would be really hard to stop at a beating.

At the risk of making people mad, I must say:
1) I might have reacted in exactly the same way
2) There was possibly a point in time that this passed from "defending a third person" into something else
3) I might have reacted in exactly the same way
4) A more suitable defense (if needed) might be some type of insanity plea
5) I might have reacted in exactly the same way
6) If he had shot the guy (a single act) he might be better off, legally, than beating him to death.
7) And, finally, I might have reacted in exactly the same way.
One dead guy, one "killer", and poor little girl who will carry a lifelong trauma. Maybe could have not happened this way, because it seems very unlikely that a 47 year old man woke up that morning and did something he has never done before in his life.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve, could not agree more. The one thought that comes to mind would be if a jury does not dismiss the case with a non guilty plee, no matter how liberal a jury they choose, I would not want to have one of those jury member's watching my back or my family's back anywhere in the world....

I experienced temporary insanity back in 1985 when I caught 3 guys (17 to 19 years old) breaking into my house one night around midnight. I approached them outside with a rifle and ordered them to freeze. One bolted and the other two complied. Before the police arrived, I recognized one of them as my paper delivery boy and the switch in my brain flipped. I became so enraged that I started beating the guy with the rifle and slamming his head against the chimney of my house. I was yelling you "FSOB" how dare you try to rip me off. I was completely out of character so I know I would have reacted in the same way and taken the insanity plea. Glad I didn't click, bang, dead kid.
They all got a year probation and restitution for damages.

It's hard to judge unless you know what the injuries were, if he hit him twice and the BG stops breathing it's different than if he pummeled him to dealth with repeated blows.
But either way, I'll submit ... I might have reacted in exactly the same way
This is really the critical point here. If this was a fight to stop the incident, and the BG died from blows administered to stop the aggression and take control, that is very different from beating someone to death in a rage.
So I edit my comment to say:
I might have reacted in exactly the same way, and I would have to accept the consequences

#1) Don't mess with Jaggman.
#2) I might have reacted in exactly the same way.
IMO justice has been served, the dad did the right thing. If he pulled that last punch & the BG lived the rest of his life as a veggie, there's a good chance that the dad would have been sued at some point for the BG's living expenses or something equally ridiculous. Never underestimate the power of a slimy lawyer with no conscience, I've seen it first hand.
Who is that other worm in the news? Oh yeah, Sandusky (sp?)...too bad one of those fathers didn't end that maggot's life after he latched onto the wrong dad's kid & spared all the others in the years following.
