First, let me say that I am a patriot.  I believe in the USA.  I love it as it was when I was young.  I believed everything I was taught in school about our country and our form of government.  I am a Vietnam-Era vet, not because I wanted to be but because it was required of me.

I believe in Thomas Jefferson’s dream.  However, what we have today is a terrible twisted, partisan and abused form of the dream.

We (the people) need to regain control of our government before it is totally destroyed and we no longer have the freedom to do so.  The people we’ve elected don’t care one wit about what the people want.  If you don’t believe me, write your congress person about how you think he/she should vote on an issue.  You will get back a boiler-plate response which subtly tells you how much more they know about what you need than you do.  They don’t seem to understand that they are supposed to represent us.

I am sending the following to news media, Sarah Palin and the Tea Party, both of my senators and my representative and everyone in my email list.  If you find these statements valid please do the same.

The declaration follows.

We the people have decided that it is time to take our government back from the oligarchy that has taken it away from us.  In order to do this we need the following listed changes to be made and these changes need to be on the ballot in November 2010.

Following is the list.
1.     Term limits for Senators; 2 terms. Twenty years after the conclusion of the second term, the senator would be eligible for another two terms.
2.     Term limits for Representatives; 3 terms. Twenty years after the conclusion of the third term, the representative would be eligible for another three terms.
3.     Pay increases for Senators and Representatives must be on the ballot in the future, and subject to the approval of the people.  This year they gave themselves almost $10,000 in raises for 2010 and 2011.  And then they had the gall to deny a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) to Social Security beneficiaries.
4.     COLA for Social Security beneficiaries should become permanent.
5.     Social Security funding must not be used to fund anything except paying benefits to those who have contributed to it. Using these funds for other things is the main reason the social security system is in financial trouble.
6.     End full salary pensions for Representatives and Senators.  Make them pay into and receive benefits from the social security system just like “the people”.
7.     Repeal the health care system generically known as “ObamaCare”.
8.     Supreme Court Justices must henceforward be voted onto the Court to put an end to the partisan nature of the current political appointment system.
9.     End the Electoral College system of vote counting and let the exact vote count determine the winner of any election.
10.    Establish that any bill introduced in the House or the Senate must stand alone.  No more adding something like health care onto a commerce bill that is sure to pass.  This is just a devious way to get more control into the hands of the oligarchy and must be stopped.  No more “pork” of any kind.
11.    Change the Income Tax to a flat 14% on all income over $35000/per year.  No deductions for any reason.  Exceptions: a. No tax on social security benefits and b. The tax rate for long-term capital gains should be 10%.
12.    Anything that the legislature passes into law must apply to all the people; this means that it applies to all Representatives and Senators as well.
13.    Eliminate the Inheritance Tax completely and permanently.
Additional Items that need to be addressed to “provide for the common good and ensure domestic tranquility:”
14.    Declare American English the official language of the United States.
15.    Establish a defensible physical border between the United States and Mexico and defend it.
16.    Deport all illegal aliens to their countries of origin.

If we can get these items on the ballot, I believe that the people will overwhelmingly VOTE YES, and we can wrest control of our government from those who believe that they are smarter than the rest of us and therefore have the right to tell us what to do in every aspect of our lives.

Zoom,

I agree!

A flat tax system would likely work better than a sales tax or "Value Added Tax" (like what is used in Europe), as I believe a VAT system would get abused rather quickly.

In addition, I would like to see:

Campaign finance reform, in the form of NO private funding (contributions) of elections.  Cap on campaign spending.  Possibly all elections be publicly funded, but I can see this could create big problems (too many candidates, revival of Jim Crow type laws, etc.)

Either strict controls placed on, or total elimination of lobby groups.

All levels of government, elected, appointed or employed, use the same healthcare system and retirement system as everyone else in this country.  If they want ObamaCare, then they too will have to use this system.  I bet SS would get fixed real quick…

Tossing out all the illegals I agree with but at this point it's almost like sticking your finger in the hole after the dam has already burst.  I would estimate 10 to 15 percent of the population where I live is comprised of illegals.  Who would mow the grass Wink.

Thanks Wayne.

All of those are excellent additional concerns.  I agree with them.  My best friend says that Lobbying should be a felony.

Also, someone told me (I'm not sure how true it is) that insurance companies have exemption from anti-trust laws.  If true, that has to be fixed as well.

I appreciate your response.

We would have landscaping issues around here too.  Maybe some of my neighbors could get some excercise by mowing their own lawns, especially the guy next door who has 6 kids that don't mow. Big Grin
