I'm sure you have all been following the news since the tragedy in Newtown on Friday, and if you happened to watch "Face the Nation" and "Meet the Press" this morning, some changes down the road are imminent. Setting aside the Right vs. Left, Conservative vs. Liberal, Democrat vs. Republican, etc.....the writing is on the wall. So...now is your chance to stock up on the things you've been thinking about for the past couple years and never got around to it. If you've got mag's., hi-cap. handguns or rifles on the list that haven't been checked off yet, you better get to it fast.

One of the true ironies of this is that the National Shooting Sports Foundation is headquartered in Newtown, CT, a few short miles from Sandy Hook School.
Attempts at legislation will certainly flow from this. Making sure you have the essentials you need is a wise move. I'd include ammunition in some quantity, and if you don't reload, give that a second thought.
Unfortunately, as availability decreases, prices will increase.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Unfortunately, Legislation only affects law abiding citizens.
Related to violence, in general, I recall that the most horrific events of recent history included using box cutters and airplanes to murder thousands of innocents, or perhaps it was a truck filled with fertilizer.
There's a law against driving while intoxicated. Yet, 10,228 people died in drunk driving crashes, accounting for 31% of all traffic deaths in 2010. The only people who consider the law are those who want to be legal...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Didn't see those programs this morning, what were they talking about? When you say 'hand guns' what was the general direction they were going with that? Do you mean high capacity hand guns or all hand guns?

The proposal will most likely be the same (or very similar) assault weapons ban that we are all familiar with. Semi-auto rifles, pistols, and shotguns with 2 or more defined characteristics and mags. over 10 rds.

I have NOT obsessed on watching the news coverage, in part because it is filled with inaccuracies and hype. I genuinely believe that the wall to wall coverage and the focus on the guns is actually creating new monsters who will have to "one up" Adam Lanza.
Since you have not seen much of the coverage, there are constant references to:
Assault Weapons, with constant harping on the Bushmaster name
High Capacity "clips"
"Devastating" Hollowpoint ammunition
GLOCK and again the 33 round "clips"
"Massive firepower"

Not sure how much this administration is going to try to demagog this because this incident has reignited Fast and Furious and Obama's gun running in North Africa. It's also called attention to the failed gun control policies in his hometown, Chicago.
