I got an e-mail from a friend this afternoon that sent me on a search. Those of you who live in MO might want to check out HB 187 and HB 545. HB 187 is about back ground checks and HB 545 wants to make felons out of us all.

Check it out, Pecos

Here is the link to the bill.  This is so F'd up - make sure you write your legislators to stop it.

I've written my state senators and reps more in the last two months than I care to admit. The bad thing about Missouri, and probably for alot of other states, is that big legistlation can be passed by the weight of voters in metropolitan areas. For us it's St. Louis and Kansas City. The only one that sent me a disappointing response was Clair McCaskil. She seemed to support "reasonable new laws". She seemed less than supportive of my recommendation that what we are experiencing is a knee jerk reaction and that I did not support any new laws regarding gun control. I'm on a gun forum and don't need to preach to the choir but a gal in St Louis introduced this little gem. It requires parents who own guns to register at the school their child goes to. That way the school officials know that your child lives in the house of a gun owner and can keep and eye on them as a vector for gun violence. http://www.senate.mo.gov/13info/bts_web/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&BillID=17148860   It's SB 124, I believe. Good to see other Missouri folk are keeping an eye on this stuff as well Pecos. Fyi, I'm in Northwest Missouri, Caldwell County.

That makes me ill to actually read a proposal like that.

That's very disturbing. I hope this "reasonable new law" will be voted down quickly...because once something like this passes in one state, others will happily jump on that bandwagon too.

Both bills are available in PDF form on the state house web site.

Dannyboy, you got a reply from McCaskill? She didn't answer me. She only does what the party tells her anyway but I still write.

As for as reporting firearms ownership to the school district I wonder if that only applies to parents of kids in school or does that apply to all who live in the district? I don't have any kids in school and I'm too blasted old to want anymore but I wonder.  big-grinbig-grinbig-grin

Much of this is similar to what we face in CT, and unfortunately, almost two months out from the Sandy Hook shooting, newspapers and TV stations here daily and routinely report anything negatively gun related. The MO bill is interesting in excluding the tubular magazine .22's and lever action rifles, at least as I read it.

They are getting smarter.

As a side note, have you seen the action being taken by AR manufacturers like LaRue and York that they are vacating contracts with NY State Law Enforcement Agencies, and will not supply any items to them that are not available to NY citizens? It's a dream to hope that SIG, S&W, and Glock might follow suit, but it seems unlikely.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yeah Steve, I saw that info on the AR guys. More power to 'em.

Looks like Barrett was the first manufacturer to kick this off.

Edit to add: Midway jumps in too

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/02/robert-farago/midway-no-leo-mag-and-ammo-sales-where-civilian-bans-apply/

I'm thinking that I need to buy more stuff from Midway

Jumping back a few posts, the way I read the bill, only parents with children in public school have to register with the school. Missouri has a strong firearms related industry. Midway, Starline, Sierra, Missouri Bullet Co. Midway really put the pedal down recently on getting orders out. Especially on magazines over 10 rds and ammo. I'm getting the impression that Midway is going full tilt on anything that might get banned.

Dannyboy, I had saw a while back that Midway wouldn't sell prohibited stuff in certain areas but didn't know that extended that to government also. Good ho for Potterfield and company.
