Honestly, this is much ado about nothing. It will simply be another notch in the gun legislation belt, yet I doubt it will go anywhere. The story is a month old today & is fraught with speculation & finger pointing & very limited facts. The very minute that Al & Jesse jumped into the fray, to me, the whole thing turned into a political farce & has been an avalanche gaining speed ever since.
The premature & tragic death of young Trayvon is being used here as nothing more than a political pinata for some overly egotistical political players, hell bent on averting our attention from the truly important matters at hand. And Barry's little schpeel about us needing to do some "soul searching"...uhh? Soul searching about what? Did I shoot the kid? Am I somehow racicst if I can't connect with the kid's teenage feelings? With the killers mentality at the time of the incident? What am I searching my soul for...that guilt of an unpaid parking ticket? What a friggin' idiot.
"If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon"...uhhh, so like what...a kid with big ears if he cut his hair short? What a friggin' idiot.
I rarely buy into the race card mentality. There are good & bad in everyone, and it doesn't take long to see the difference. Some people I like, others I don't, and it rarely matters to me what the color of their skin looks like. I like to feel that my general aversion to my fellow man knows no bounds. But when I hear that Jesse & Al have jumped on board, I know damned well that those two are always front & center at dividing & polarizing whites & blacks against each other. If it wasn't for those two guys & probably a hundred or so in their shadows, there may very well be no racial divide today. Ever think of that?
Anyway, I have no opinion regarding stand your ground...other than me & my own ground...and well, a few other things in my immediate life.
There, I said it.

Again, I agree. I need to stand my ground, the best way I can, with the full knowledge of the cost.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

His death, unfortunately, is being used by a lot of people. There are reports that his mom is trademarking phrases using Trayvon's name. Sheesh! Profiting from the death of her child!!?? Al, Jesse, the BP's and the attorneys all are looking to score on this one.
It's interesting that none of them have said much, if anything, about the confessed hate murder of a black in Mississippi recently. The difference as one pundit pointed out is that Mississippi has 4 electoral votes and Florida has 27.
And Barry O's statement about how he feels for the parents and that this would look like his son?! I might make that sort of statement, if really meant, but only in person and in private.
Barry missed an opportunity to call for calm, to show real class, to show leadership.
And if the photo reported to be of Trayvon sporting gold gangsta teeth and his claims of being a a "Made N***a" prove true, well, I don't think Barry O should be talking about his parenting skills as something to be admired and copied.
It's a sad situation, one person dead, another person's life destroyed and lots of people flailing about looking for attention.
