To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:
if you find one...what's your plan?

Agreed Dave, same for me but this is another world and sad as it is we gotta do stuff that wouldn't have been thought needed in our young days. We were a different people then. Goodness, I remember when I got my first shooter I took it to school just to show it off to my friends. These kids now ain't even loud to mention how proud they are of their country or they're flag.

At first glance, I thought this was a great idea. What I think is a better idea is:
1) Any school employee legally allowed to concealed carry that is willing to undergo a specific training regimen/certification designed for "school security" should be allowed to concealed (fully, deeply concealed) carry while at work.
2) Select, employ, and train school resource officers (primary source-former active duty military, retired police officers, fire fighters, etc.) tasked with active security at entrances/exits during the school day and at school activities on school property. In addition to training in threat detection, crisis leadership, and armed/unarmed combat skills, they should have "combat medic" training and supplies available.
I think there is a lot of value in bringing students into daily contact with people who are both tasked with keeping them safe and who have demonstrated "serving others" as a lifestyle. Maybe more kids come out of school with a sense of what serving society means. If as few as five percent of school age kids saw a strong, positive, protective role model on a regular, daily basis, I think it's a big Win/Win.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Those are great ideas Steve. I know here in Shelby Co. Our schools have active Sheriff Deputies as resource officers. However, if they get called out, cause they are on duty, they serve no purpose. I am on work comp leave right now but I had been a bus driver. I tried to get our district to do just what your ideas were and was told they couldn't afford too. It was cheaper they said to use deputy sheriff. I couldn't see how. I truly believe they are just scared to have a constitution supporting ex-soldier in the school influencing the children...that's just me. I do believe if we want our children safe and hopefully as you say show them a real role model, we need folks with a good attitude and well trained.
