Interesting color combo.

Why are you building, just because you like to, or does it save money?

Yes on both counts, I am retired which always means more time than money !

But I enjoy diving into things that most would pay to have done.

I will see something I like or would like to do, and I read and study things from other people on the subject and then I get to work.

Paying for something is fine, but when you do it yourself you appreciate it even more so.

I too am retired so I can appreciate your position.  I also enjoy doing things for myself, especially if I can be creative.

Also, the learning process helps keep us young.

Self satisfaction of a job well done Laugh.  Same reason I buy beaters to fix up, build Pacs, do my own gunsmithing, etc...

For REAL FUN sometime, request the annual Brownells 1911 catalogue. The places you can go with a 1911 are amazing!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

This is my home built re-build. It's a Colt Series 80 frame and slide. Every interal part was replaced with Wilson Combat components (all Bulletproof where available) with the exception of the barrel, which is the original. The grips are VZ 320s; the sights are Trijicon. The finish is Duracoat CADPAT pattern.

 .

Forgot to mention WC beavertail, SpeedChute magwell, mag release, slide release and thumb release (all Bulletproof). Probably wasn't the cheapest way to go: gun was $700.00; WC parts $700;  sights $115; grips $90; gunsmith to polish feedramp, hand fit all parts and Duracoat $275. But still cheaper than a Wilson Combat 45

It is a Duracoat pattern of colors called CADPAT. I think the coater has some discretion as to the pattern; I have an AR 15 to match it.

And not to worry, both fall into the category of never been fired.

Both of those are really neat. Always fun to create something unique.
