Since we have a thread of folks' AR's I thought it would be cool to have a thread on our AK's. I did a quick search and didn't see one. Here is the evolution of my one and only, it's a Norinco.
As original.

Then I decide that a quad rail would be nice. Being the El Cheapo I am, I went shopping, for value (cheap). Bought one for a generic AK. When it arrived I discovered how different the Norinco is (in a good way). I knew the receiver wall was a bit thicker than most and this makes it desirable for folks wanting to rebuild or customize one.
So I got her mostly stripped down and...

I found out the barrel is thicker too. The quad rail didn't fit, the barrel is just a smidgen too big. Out comes the dremel (gunsmiths cringe here!).

Two sanding disks and one grinding wheel later, it fits!

I have since removed the red dot, it just doesn't do much for me and makes the rifle even more front end heavy than it normally is.

Let's see some of yours.

Good thread Boss Dog. It seems that everybody I know has an AR of some variation these days, so therefore I do not have one. Great rifles but I just tend to not follow the crowd I guess. So therefore I have an AK. It is the favored rifle of insurgency and rebellion worldwide after all.
I have never seen a Norinco AK, so I am assuming you like yours and would recommend them BOSS? I am not very knowledgeable about AKs and do not know which are the better and more reliable ones to look for. I did have a Norinco SKS years back that was great but I sold it during a divorce.
My AK is a Romanian WASR. I acquired it fairly cheap from a friend who took it as a partial trade for a dirt bike. I was not looking for an AK but it was just a purchase of opportunity. I will say I will never buy anything made in Romania again, it was a piece of crap and took a fair amount of work to get it to run right. Both the front sight block and the gas block were pinned to the barrel canted. I drilled out the metric pins, lined up the blocks (had to heat them with a propane torch to get them to rotate)and redrilled the pins to 1/8". A crude home garage fix but it works.
The wood looked like it had been shaped with a 4" hand grinder, luckily the pieces were all oversize so I sanded them all thoroughly and laid on about 10 coats of Truoil and buffed to a low sheen. I did have the rifle outfitted with a folding stock and tactical forearm but I like the wood look better. I find that the cheap Tapco plastic magazines function best in my AK.
Here is the only pic I could find without digging it out of the safe to take new ones, but it isn't much to look at anyway-

Yes, I would definitely recommend one. The receivers are about .5 mm thicker than most other AK's and the barrel is heavier which among commie-gun fans = more sturdy & reliable & accurate (as far as AK's go). They are sought after by people who want to build their own custom AK and that drives up the price on them when you find them. This is a really old target from just playing with it a few years back. Need to do it again. As you can see I'm not much of a shot. Wasn't really a bag rest but, a towel over a cinder block wall.
