I've seen a couple of AR's cruise through through DWF recently. How about some pictures and descriptions.
I really believe that Dan would have been all over 1911's and AR's. DW revolvers were made to be a "shooters guns", AR's and 1911's are too.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

All I have is a cheap S&W M&P Sport. I'll see if I can find a pic... Ah, here's a not-so-good one.

I only have one AR, I regret that I never got an M&P when I could, that always looked like a good value to me.
I regret not getting an M&P because centerfire AR's are banned in my state. If I had some extra money, I would buy a rimfire M&P.

Recent AR pic from another thread:
From top to bottom-
AR 15 A2 model; This is my across the course Military Long Range rifle.
6.8 SPC- I built this for no reason, just because I had a TC rifle in 6.8
H&K 416- Impulse buy but a good shooter
300 BO- Another I built, because I didn't have one.
DPMS 450 Bushmaster- this is another deployment gun. The lower is a Spikes tactical- I worked with them to get the 3-89 CAV crest and deployment information on the mag well. The EO Tech is perfect for taking hogs in SOWELA. Looks like the flash picked up some remnant nail polish I need to clean up...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Like I said, I have one AR
This one is a freerider04 custom. Several years ago, when my son was stationed in the Persian Gulf, we started "building" an AR for me. Every Christmas, Fathers Day, Birthday... he bought something for my AR, and had it shipped home. We had great (very long distance) conversations about just what I wanted, why we should pick a particular component, etc.
Once he came home, he pulled a lower out of his gun safe (which we were babysitting), spread everything out on the kitchen table, and put it all together.
The upper is a DPMS Sweet Sixteen heavy barrel ( I really wanted this one) the stock is an Ace Skeleton, lower is a DPMS that he got a great deal on when he was stationed in Galveston. Pretty sure the sights are LaRue, I added a Harris Bipod and an inexpensive scope. 30 rd PMags and 20 rd Lancers.
Pretty sure there is another freerider04 AR somewhere here, maybe we will get a picture

OK, here's mine in its early stages of customization. I have some more goodies on it now. Guess I need a new pic. Custom based on a Stag Arms lower with a bunch of extras tacked on. The scope is illuminated for low light shooting. I have a laser and tac light on it now also along with a fore end pistol grip.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Recently did some changes to my AR build with it's 14.7 pinned FN produced barrel.
How it was before........
And how it is now.....
As you can see I ditched the K2 grip in favor of the standard moe one. I just didn't like the K2 grip angle like I originally thought I would. Also ditched the vertical grip. Turns out I also don't like it and prefer going back to just cupping the handguard with my support hand. Got a sweet deal on a bunch of old school 20 rounders that I had to have. I've added a primary arms red dot sitting on top of an American Defense qd mount. Rock solid by the way, couldn't be happier and glad I splurged for the extra coin on the mount. Best addition to this rifle so far.
Finally ditched the magpul flashlight mount. It just placed the light too far up and forward for my short thumbs. I found a MFT torch mount that puts it exactly where I want it now. Bonus with the MFT was the spring loaded on/off push button for tool less removal/install on the rail. Gives you the option to easily remove your light if you needed a handheld one for whatever reason in the field but attaches right back onto the rifle rock solid.
For me this build has slowly evolved into what works for me as the perfect AR carbine. I've tried to KISS for the most part. I'm calling this my perfect M4gery lol. That is the beauty of this platform like the ruger 10/22, way too many aftermarket options to switch swap and go broke on lol. But eventually you come to the combination of parts that works perfectly for your needs. My goal was to set out and build a solid g2g Zombie/SHTF/3rd world war etc..... fighting machine. So far Im extremely pleased with the end result. YMMV.

I've had a few different ARs pass through my hands over the years. Everything from a classic A2 to a Cobb that was chambered for 30.06 (their 100 years of the 30.06 anniversary model). The only AR that I have kept is one I assembled myself. The rifle as pictured includes; Sun Devil billet lower, Billet upper (the brand escapes me), White Oak Armament barrel - chambered for 6.8 SPC-II w/matching bolt, Young National Match bolt carrier, Aimpoint red dot and Aimpoint 3x. The other items are regular off the shelf type stuff with brand names that have also escaped memory - I built this rifle about 8 years ago.

Sweet looking rig wdelack. Now that I think I'm finished up with my carbine that is kind of along the line of what I where I want to go with my next one and build a more accuracy focused long range rifle. I like your choice of the billet lower/upper and the stainless barrel etc......... I'll bet that thing is a sweet shooter.

Thanks!
It shoots better than I do ... Once I get my breathing under control, I can usually get it to 1" MOA out to 200 yards (with a decent rifle scope mounted). Attempts at 300 yards show the projectiles are arcing down quite a bit. But this has more to do with the caliber than the rifle.

Wow. That 30.06 looks like a beast. Too bad it didn't cycle reliable for you.
I tried several different brands of ammo, and bullet weights. Tried reloading several different bullet weights and powder charges as well. Eventually got Cobb involved and they replaced the bolt and bolt carrier with a very different version. It got better with the new carrier group but still could not go more than about 3 to 4 rounds without a FTF or stove pope. In the end it appeared to me the rifle was intended for collectors and not so much shooters, so I sold it.
January 26, 2015
Yea I can see the appeal as a collector piece. You sound like me though, you buy them to be shooters and not safe queens
I still need to decide if I'm going to stick with 5.56 or maybe venture into the .300blk camp on this next one. I like the fact that for .300 blk its just a simple barrel swap and that is it. I suppose I could just as easily build two uppers in each caliber and swap em out. But then its not much more money or effort to put together one more lower to have another complete functional rifle. Grrr this darn black rifle disease lol! I've also toyed with the concept of going .308 ala AR10 style. Decisions suck lol.
.300 blk shines in the sbr/suppressed role though and I'm not sure I want to dive into the world of stamp collecting just yet. That is another money pit so I'm told.

Hi Steve, yes I do believe it is an Ace stock.
When my son built mine, we chose the Ace Skeleton because CT had a 2 "evil features" limit to make it NOT an assault rifle. Now everything even remotely AR style (except .22 lr) is an assault weapon here.
BTW-Nice to see you on DWF! Does this mean you are back from Down Under?

I have returned from Oz, and back living in Houston. We closed on a house last week and will get moved in by the middle of March. I hope to get my little firearm collection out of storage soon after...
