I somehow came across DakotaJack's post from 10 years ago I was looking at info on Mitchell Arms Gold Series 95 1911 pistol. His post from 10 years ago gave me almost all the info I needed to not buy a Mitchell Arms gun. They were put together from parts from Caspian and Foster and were junk as most of the people who bought them posted. Now comes the Mitchell Mauser 1911 and a completely different story. Built by Bob Serva Dan Wesson it's really a Pointman. I sent a message to Bob to make sure and yes the complete gun was built for Mitchell Mauser. I started looking for one that night and behold there was one on Guns.com for $1400 Well that was too high for me but it had a make offer and I ended up paying $1000 for it. It's new in box with paperwork and even a test bullet. Seems like a good deal for a new Pointman. You can look up the old post it's very interesting reading! I'm not a 1911 fan but any rare Dan Wesson story is one I am in on. Just like the Titan!

That's right....the Gold Series 95 guns had a reputation for sub-standard quality, or shooter-grade quality at best. I see these come up at gun shows and auctions from time to time. The Gold Series gun that you found is the good one built by R. Serva for Don Mitchell. I confirmed this with R. Serva in my original post 9 years ago, and the photos of one of the four guns I purchased showed the spent shell casing signed by R. Serva himself. It's a PMA-S with High Standard logos on the grips and slide. Don Mitchell used to run High Standard for a time and I'm not sure if he had the legal right to the logo in his own company, but he did it. I met Don about 10 years ago. He had a lot of experience in the gun industry and ran several gun companies prior to his own. I know there was some backlash about his Mauser rifles and their authenticity. Don also ran into some legal problems regarding tax evasion on imported/manufactured guns and spent some short time in federal prison. Unfortunately he passed away several years ago.
You were lucky to find that Gold Series gun new in the box. It's a real nice gun and the only things that are missing are checkering on the front strap and a magwell. It has the flat top/serrated slide which is a nice feature and the overall quality is just the same as all the other 1911's coming out of Norwich. You can easily drop in a S&A magwell/mainspring housing, and if you wanted you can have the front strap checkered at a custom shop. Back at the time I made the post in this forum which you found, I purchased (4) of these guns that were sold through CDNN when they came into a lot of them. I still have them, new in the box.
