I finally got my Holy Grail, the Western Auto 99. After a 5 year search I found one LNIB all original paperwork and a price I could live with. I know it's just a cheap High Standard Sentinel (I found one NIB also) rebranded but they are rare! Most of these guns were shot and thrown in the garbage. After all you could buy one for $39 new in the early 60's. Now they are becoming very collectible! Also I got two matching High Standard Crusaders rare for a different reason, they only made 500 of each one 45 Colt one 44 Magnum.

Gunbroker auction. I could not believe I got them both for $2126 plus tax & shipping. I got them for less than $1200 each! The crazy thing is there was another single 44 mag Crusader that was in the original case at auction at the same time. Granted I think it was in even better condition. These 2 guys got in a bidding war over it and it hammered for $6000 crazy! That was for just one gun! There is a pair of them brand new with cases and paperwork that have been on GB for months and either one of these guys could buy them both for $5000. I think that the price is too high. Bidding wars never work out for either party!

I totally agree. Depending on what I'm pursuing, most of the time when I find myself in a bidding war I throw in the towel early on. Of course, sometimes I stay in just to test the resolve of the other guy...then duck out when I feel he has been fleeced well enough.
I think the price you landed those two for is fair. I have been watching that $5K pair for a while now, but foolishly haven't been searching for new listings in the meantime. Oh well, at the moment I am mainly window shopping, most of my disposable buckage is not so liquid these recent months. Congrats on landing that pair.

Maybe copied to a point but not how the mainspring is captured by the sideplate screw. A blend of Dan Wesson and Smith and Wesson. The biggest difference is the hammer is cammed and rises to hit the firing pin when the trigger is pulled but falls back down when the trigger returns. No transfer bar. Also the cylinder release a lever you push up.
The front lockup latch of a Dan Wesson is duplicated on a Llama Super Comanche but the cylinder release is behind the cylinder. A U shaped lever inside the frame, actuates the latch. In the crane. I am telling you about the Llama because they are an unheralded Masterpiece. The bluing can match a Python. The steel is Spanish, very good. They have the styling of a Model 29 Smith and the raised checkering of a Python grip. They made 3000 in 357 with 4,6, and 81/2" barrels that have a vent rib. They made 7000 44 mag in 6+81/2" lengths. The one flaw is there sometimes is a small gap between the barrel and the frame. The barrel itself is fine but it doesn't always look screwed all the way in.
