Found one used at pawn shop, decent shape w/case & 2 mags, asking 425Seems like a good price, anyone shot one ?
I have taken a preference to all metal handguns as of late. I own one polymer pistol. Yes, it is a Walther P99. I have searched and searched and there just is not an all metal pistol that I would even dream about getting to replace my P99.
What I like. It is a clean gun without various protrusions and excess unnecessary forward slide serrations. Decocker is recessed, not hanging off the slide or frame.
It is a D/A S/A striker fired pistol with second strike capability. No external safety. Operates like a revolver with the initial heavier trigger on the first shot but a very nice single action for remaining shots. A very safe pistol for CC. However, in single action it has no equal. It has a very nice trigger with an amazing short reset. You hear people rave about the trigger on the PPQ. Guess who the PPQ has for a parent. Ergonomics are very nice. I like the paddle magazine release, though I could go with a button as well. Some may not like the paddle. Seems like you either do or do not like it. However, most of the folks I hear complain about it never owned a pistol with the paddle Mag. release. The trigger is amazingly versatile. Though some would say it is complicated. Double action as I have said is very safe. The pistol can be placed into single action by simply moving the slide about 1/4 inch rearward. Sort of like a press check. And, of course if you don't want the light S/A trigger you can always decock. I won't even get into safe mode. Just think of it as a long S/A pull. You can place your thumb on the striker indicator when holstering to be aware if you have snagged the slide and are cocking the striker. All in all it is a very safe, versatile pistol with a very nice trigger. Oh yeah, plus even though it is considered a service pistol it is not large like some. It is a svelt down sized service pistol. You can CC it without much trouble.
Those are all the things that make me like it. But that is just one persons opinion. What I like someone else might hate.
I have considered a couple of the Sig. models and also the CZ P-01 and 75 D PCR as they are all metal. They cannot give me everything I have and like in the P99. My P99 is not going anywhere.
Hope my obviously biased opinion helps.
