I saw a beautiful 4" Python today a LGS for $2400. The salesperson was characterizing as being "different" than another Python for almost twice as much because it was an "export".
Anyone know what difference "Export" would make?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yes, the shroud was engraved "IMPORT", and this one was almost half the price of the other Python they had. Perhaps there was some reason that the price on the other one was so much higher.
Actually, I don't know what Pythons sell for these days, virtually no way I am ever going to own one.

Guess I had it backwards. So it devalues it that much ??
Actually, I sort of asked it backwards in my initial post. I think there must have been some reason that the other one was over $4000.

Steve, as much as I love Dans, Pythons are the the blue chip investment of handguns. I was sceptical into I fired one. Two things separate them from all other guns. The fit and finish which is beyond compare and the double action. I can shoot DA in mine at least as good as in single action, maybe better. Of course, being limited to one barrel length is a handicap. Prices vary by length. 3" very rare, 21/2" maybe double the 4" in value. 8"seems to be a little less than 21/2 and 6 a little more than 4. Of course finishes affect value with nickel a plus. If it is in good shape. 2400 seems about right for a 4" blue in very good condition if it has original grips. The guns from 60's and 50's are held in higher regard by some. My advice to anyone with the means is to buy a slightly used one you can shoot and enjoy it. Arlen is the one who convinced me and I thank him for it. BTW, 4"is the bomb as far as Pythons go.

Thanks for all the replies to what was really a curiosity for me. Even if I had $2400 to spend, it would likely not be on one gun, certainly not a Python, I have enough .357's

I have fired and handled two pythons here (Greece), both didn't bare any special markings and I don't think they had any difference from the non-exported ones. The only weird thing I recall is that the older one that was from the 70'ies looked and felt a bit nicer and maybe its my imagination but also felt a bit chunkier. The old one was a 6" blued and the "new" one was from the 90'ies 6" stainess. I've read stories about deterioration of the quality during the last years of production and if I'm correct I believe the python was stopped once in late 90ies, came back and was stopped again.
