Just picked up this Colt Trooper III a couple of weekends ago. I tried an AMT AutoMag II and a little boot for this one. I looked the look and feel of the AutoMag but it was just to tempermental for me...

Tried, or traded? Probably traded, I'm thinkin'.
Nice looking Colt, have tou taken it plinking yet? I haven't shot one of those in .22 caliber, but I'd imagine it shoots well. Colts are good guns, with nice fit & finish...only DW's are plain cooler.
Funny you traded an Automag II for that, I used to own one of those for about 10 years. Almost my favorite thing with that gun was the big ball-o-flame it would blast out the end. LOL! After I traded mine, I almost immediately regretted it. I'll probably get another one some day.
You're right though, they can be temperamental...especially if there's any buildup around the firing pin. Mine would also flip the safety lever to safe whenever it felt a little spunky, usually after shooting a dozen or so rounds. I got in the habit of double checking it fairly often.
