Well my wife decided she wants to go ahead and get her CCW permit.  We went to the Sportsman's Warehouse last week and I let her pick out a pistol.  She had shot a Glock and really liked it at the Police Firing Range when she attended the Citizen's Police Academy for her job.

Well I personally just can't get past the looks of the Glock however this wasn't to be my firearm so I let her handle a few different ones.  She looked at the Glock, Springfield XD and the CZ.

I personally liked the feel of the CZ the best and fortunately so did she.  So we picked this one up.  We went to the range Monday so she could try it out and in doing so realize I had made a mistake.  I did not let her rack the slide and this seemed difficult for her.  Not sure if it just where she's just to the Beretta Neos that she plinks with when we shoot.

She and I had not been to the range together in sometime.  I had actually picked up a S&W Model 30-1 a year ago for her to play with and this was the first time she had gotten to shoot it.  Turns out she likes the S&W better...  I know the .32 S&W Long is not the idea self defense round but it's better than nothing.

So I guess I get the CZ.  We're going to shoot some more over the Thanksgiving holiday hopefully she'll become more comfortable with it.

Jody,

What cal. is the CZ., and how much does it weigh? Did you hold more than one XD? How is the trigger and kick on the CZ.? Was thinking about getting a auto 9mm for CCW, but 6 for sure from my 15-2-2 &1/2" is not too bad in the reliability dept, but is a tad on the heavy side.

Hopefully, the slide racking problem is just a familiarity problem. Did you check out any M&P's? My M&P9c is a very easy and comfortable carry pistol IWB, and could easily be a purse gun as well.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The P01 is a 9mm.  I think it's just where she's not use to it.  She's use to shooting a Beretta NEOS with is very easy to pull the slide back on.  Once she get's her permit this will probably be a purse gun for her and at the very least a night stand gun when I'm away.

Hopefully we'll get to shoot some around Christmas time again to try it out...
