What is a "Not Gun"?
A .22 lr conversion for my SIG 229 SAS. For many reasons, like:
- It's cheap to shoot a lot, and I'm sitting on about 10K of .22 lr
- My wife would probably like shooting this, and we can go to the local club I'm a member of (1/2 mile from home)
- It goes on my SIG with the DAK trigger system, without a doubt the BEST true DA only auto pistol trigger system out there
- If my wife becomes comfortable with this, I can switch the house gun to the SIG, which my wife will be familiar with (but in .40 S&W)
- Refer to #1, while I chant "There is no ammo shortage"
Seriously, if I can my wife a little more interested in shooting, it would be cool. Worst case is, it goes in her nightstand drawer as a .22.
A .22 she will use is better than anything else that she won't
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm hoping for a pretty comprehensive photo session this weekend:my safe, Andrew's safe, etc. Photobucket may have to put another server on line

It's a very well designed and machined kit - not to mention I like the way it looks on the blue frame.
Accuracy is very good and I've never had it misfeed or jam (!).
High velocity rounds only, mags are 10 rounds and it just pops away. Really fun to just pump 'em off!
-that was one mag...

Coooool. A 22 conversion sounds like a lot of fun. And a good bit cheaper to shoot. You say no problem getting ammo, around here 22's are just as scarce as the other calibers. Glad I have a good supply, although I am being a little stingy with them right now until things loosen up with the ammo thing.
Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.

I hope I will be OK for a while but some of my friends have started to worry. The local Wal-Mart gets ammo in regularly but it sells out in a few hours after arriving. They have even put a 2 box per customer ration on the ammo. I do not know if it's just here or everywhere. I'm just glad I load all my own, except 22's of course. I assume or am hoping at least eventually the hoarders will get enough and thing will go back to normal, at least supply wise. Price is another thing.
But this is a happy place, so more talk (and pics) about guns.

CDF - looks like the cleaning stuff (& speedloader) is the only difference. Who makes that kit?
DT,
It's an STI Kit. Here is the propaganda on it:
STI .22 Caliber Conversion Kit - STI |
---|
STI international, Inc brings you the finest .22 conversion kits available anywhere. With these conversion kits, you can easily swap out your top end to go from one caliber to another- it's like getting a second pistol for less than half the price. This will allow shooters to increase their trigger time while decreasing the cost of good training.
The STI .22 Caliber Converstion Kit, designed by Bob Marvel, locks the barrel in place for improved reliability and accuracy. The conversion kit may be purchased for either the 1911 (single stack) platform or the world famous 2011 (double stack) platform. The kit comes complete with adjustable sights, lock back on last round (single stack), an excellent extended 10 round magazine, complete cleaning kit, magazine loading tool, and a custom fitted hard case. The top end works on either 1911 or 2011 frames with only the magazine to replace if the shooter wishes to change frames. This is the STI magazine version. This item cannot be shipped overseas. |
While I am hijacking your thread Steve, congrats on your “Not Gun”. It sounds like a wise decision that I need to seriously consider.
